Happy Easte from Fin del Mundo (The end of the world!). I´ now in Ushuaia which is the most sourtherly city in the world surrounded by mountains and sea which is all rather spectacular. Since the last update I´ve gone from Argentina to Chile nd now back i Argentina again. I clearly spoke to soon when mocking the British weather and saying how lovely and hot it was out here as the temperature dropped and weather conditions deteriorated especially for the camping in Torres Del Paine. Out came the theremals and down jacket and all the wet weather gear. Torre del Paine National Park was spectacular and managed to almost get a clear view of the towers. The camping I´d describe as okayish - gret location but rather chilly and very very windy and some resident mice that got into a few people´s tent but fortunately left mine alone! Did a couple of walks capturing the scenery and feel for the area but was thwarted by the low cloud and snow for the Torres walk and had to turn back after a couple of hours...it wasn´t all bad as the local hosteria was a great place to dry out and continue sampling the Chilean red wine. Kept up with the active theme by going horse riding whilst in the park. It was fantastic once I´d got over the shock of how big my horse appeared to be. Luckily it was a very docile beast who was very compliant and lazy but with a bit of encouragement from a small twig ued as a crop it managed to work up a trot every now and again and I stayed on it which was a bonus.
Having survived three nights camping I had the good fortunate to go to Seno Otway where there is a penguin colony of Magellenic Penguins. They were on their best behaviour and were wandering about from burrow to the sea and I´ve got some fab photos (yeah I´ll get round to doing something with them soon).
Oh I forgot the update on Peggy... well alas she didn´t get fixed for our trip but we later got another bright yellow truck called Frank who was practically identical to the other one. Truck and passengers made it across the Magellan Straits onto Tierra Del Fuego and then into Argentina again. Down this part of the world there are quite a few memorials to the Falklands War and the odd anti British graffiti every now and again. Ushuaia isn´t the prettiest of places in terms of the actual city, although the scenery is pretty impressive. Have done some more walking down here and been out in the Beagle Channel this morning spotting seals, sea lions, albatross, coromorants etc. Tonight is the last night of this part of the trip and then I head upto Buenos Aires to take in a bit of a tango show (although i haven´t got anything glamorous to wear in my pack) before heading upto Iguaza falls and then onto Easter Island. This part of the trip has been fantastic although I´m not sure that I´d travel with this particular company again. The jury´s still out on that at the moment. Look forward to more messages from home. Oh one slight confession... I haven´t had any steak but i did try a tiny piece of argentinian lamb and it was lovely but hasn´t converted me.
