I spent the day on the TransApline Railway which was great and helped lift my mood a bit. I sat down on the train and a guy in his twenties sat next to me. When he spoke he had a familiar accent. I asked where he was from and he said Belfast. When I told him I was from Comber he was like "No Way!". He was good company for the first half of the journey but he didn't make the return trip. He had got talking to a woman at the airport when he flew in and she put him up in her house and took him round sightseeing. he recommended that I go to Akaroa which is to be my first stop out of Christchurch. I just need to get a rental car sorted and I'll be out of here. The hostel is nice enough but impersonal and there are big groups of people travelling together so there is not much chance of meeting anyone doing it on there own like me. Anyway, the train was amazing with spectacular views of the mountains and gorges. I spent a lot of my time out on the observation carriage which is completely open so you can take unobstructed photographs. I think I took about a hundred photos just today but might need to put them on disk before I can put any on the site.
Hope everyone is well and Fred is coping without his teeth. I'm definately losing weight as I have hardly ate anything since I arrived. I've not been able to find a supermarket yet, just minimarkets.
