I have enjoyed every bit of Thailand that I have seen so far. I arrived in Phuket and managed to find a hostel. I was pretty lucky that I had met an American guy on my flight so I already knew some people when I was looking for somewhere to stay. After checking in we went out and found something to eat and then suddenyl it was very late so I went to bed.
The next day I booked a boat to go over to the island of Ko Phi Phi. Bill the American guy I had met was on the same boat as were and English girl and a Canadian couple. Once we all got to the island we went off in search of somewhere to stay trying to avoid all the toats along the way. The place we had seen in the guide books was unfortunately full when we got there so some fo us stayed with the bags whilst they rest went to try and negotiate room prices. I was lucky at this point that I had found some people to share rooms with as they do not really have dorms in Thailand so it is much cheaper to share rooms with people than get one for yourself. We ended up finding a triple for myself Hannah and Bill and the Canadian couple found a double. By this point we were very hot and hungry so we went out in search of food and then went to lay on the beach which was absolutely stunning.
Phi Phi is quite a part island so that night we all went out in search of a good place to party. People were handing out flyers for all sorts of places so we first headed to the one that had the drink deals on early in the night. This turned out to be a good choice of where to go. They had a lot of good entertainment. When we arrived there was somebody singing and then they got people up to play a sort of musical chairs game, then they had a guy doing stunts with knifes and breaking cocunuts with his head and stuff. He was impressive but it made me cringe so I had to shut my eyes at some points. Then to finish off the entertainment they had a fire show which was amazing. After the fire show we decided we would see what was going on in some other places. This was a bit of a mistake as it would appear that the place we had gone to first off was one of the best places to go out on the island.
Four of us booked a day trip for the next day we went out on a long boat around some different islands. The first place we stopped off at was called monkey beach which as you ca imagine had a lot of monkeys on it. They were everywhere. The baby ones were especially fun to watch and very fast although I was a bit cautious around them as they did seem to bite. One girl they seemed to get attached to and keep climbing onto her haid and her shoulders . I would have been a bit scared if they had liked me that much i think, i didnt want them climbing all over me. We then went round to some different coves and had a swim in one and went snorkelling in the other. Some of the other poepl in out boat had brought some bread with them to feed to fish so as I was snorkelling around the boat loads of fish came over and I was just swimming right in the middle of them. Somebody then gave me some bread and I fed it to them as I was in the water. I have never fed fish like this before and as I kept the bread whole the fish had to come and nibble bits off the bread. You could really feel them nibbling on it which was weierd but fun. We then heaeded out to the beach where the film the beach was filmed. It was beautiful but I think some clever camera tricks were used as it definately looked better in the film. I will have to watch it again now I have been there. We took the boat back to Phi Phi in the sunset which was gorgeous and very relaxing until we started having a race with another longboat. We then started to get very wet.
As the bar we had gone to the evening before was so good we decided we would head back there again for a secod night. It was similiar sort of entertainment again except we sat closer to the fire show this time. maybe a bit too close to me as I was at the front of our table. I was getting a bit worried about what would happen if one of the guys dropped his sticks of fire. One of the guys decided to pretend to throw the fire at me which made me lean back in my chair as far as possible and made the guy on the microphone laugh at me. We had been a lot cleverer with the flyers on the second night as well as we realised the gave you free drinks. We made sure we got given a flyer each as opposed to one between us so we didnt really have to spend much money during the night either. It turned into quite a late night though as we stayed to dance and then stopped for thai pancakes on the way home (way better than kebabs) so I was feeling a bit tired when we had to get up and check out the next morning.
We had decided to move islands and go across to Ko Lanta which was a cheaper island to stay on than Phi Phi. Once again we had a big trek round in the heat to try and find the best deal for accomodation then went down to the beach. Ko Lanta is definately a much more chilled out island than Phi Phi and seemed to have a lot more families there. This meant that we mostly spent our days on the beach and then went and found somewhere good to eat in the evenings. The food in Thailand is amazing and we did seem to spend a lot of time discussing what we were going to have for our next meal. Whilst we were on Ko Lanta we also sneaked into one of the posh resorts near where we were staying and used there pool and sun loungers. This way we could sun bathe without getting to snady and pretend we were as posh as the people that were staying there. It was brilliant and nobody treid to throw us out so we did the smae thing the next day.
After four days on Ko Lanta we booked a minibus to take us to Krabi. The place where we had booked the minibus from took us to the bus stop in the back of thier pick up truck which was an experience and when we got there and saw how full the minibus was we wanted to go the whole way in the back of the pick up as that seemed much more fun. As the bus was full I had to sit in the front with the driver. This meant that I could see all of his crazy overtaking manouvers. I think the guy spent most fo the time on the wrong side of the road so I was glad when we got there. I had also developed quite a cold by this point so I just wanted to find somewhere to stay and go to sleep.
I only spent one night in Krabi. One of my friend is flying out from England so I needed to come up to Bangkok to meet them. It was a bit of a shame that most of the time I was in Krabi was spent in bed trying to get rid of the cold. I then got on an overnight bus up to Bangkok which was suprisingly comfortable and arrived in Bangkok at about seven this morning. This is not the best time to arrive somewhere as most of the rooms are full as nobody has checked out. I spent quite a while looking around for rooms and even looked at two which I decided were too horrible to spend the money on before finding a decent place. I will be going to the airport soon to meet my friend and then probably head back down to some of the islands again. So my last few weeks of travelling will be spent with someone else which Im looking forward to after over 4 months on my own.
