Lynda and Fred Travels
Well...what a change! Woke up first day on ship and weather changed from sunny 38 degrees to cold and very wet 10degrees. It just poured all day and forecast does not look much better. We started the day with a hearty breakfast ...won't go hungry on this ship....big worry is if your clothes fit by end of second week! We left Melk for a cruise down Danube to Krems so our bus ride to Vienna would not be so great. We left for Vienna at noon and toured the city by bus first....very ornate buildings...much bigger buildings than Budapest but not as attractive.....Vienna is a very rich and prosperous cit as opposed to Budapest which is very poor! Our walking tour was shortened as it was pelting rain and we were all freezing. We ended up spending 2 hours in a coffee shop....Venice famous for their coffee shops.... Then we went to a German restaurant down in the dungeon and had the largest schnitzel you have ever seen! Could not take any pictures as too wet....windows and camera lens were full of raindrops....we had to rely on postcards. Then we had a private sitting in the opera house....first look around rooms and see paintings while drinking champagne...then we had an hour of various entertainment....lady opera soprano singer, man singer who was brilliant, some brilliant kids performing as well as some great music from Mozart, a waltz, couple of Austrian polkas and a few march bands.....very very good! back to ship and had late dinner waiting for us....goulash....but we had red wine and cheese...music and bed!
