Ahoy-hoy..
As I was saying in the last post, we couldn't get anywhere to kip in Byron Bay, so we had to head a bit further north a bit earlier than expected, but only as far as Surfers' Paradise.
We arrived about lunchtime, so we got ourselves into our room straight away, an 8 bed dorm this time. It was actually split into two, with 4 beds in our room and another 4 in the kitchen bit so I think we got the best deal there! There were two German lads in there when we arrived and the other beds were later taken up by France and more Germany. A couple of Poles, a Yank and a Russian and it could have got a bit tasty in there like!
Anyway, we did what we do and went for a wander. Surfers' is mainly just a Shopping Mall, Bars, Clubs & High Rises and a beach that goes on forever in either direction. It's a bit like a holiday destination for the young and daft at certain times of the year too, although not when we were there. They should have called it Magalufaloo or something! Also, unfortunately a loot of the people here are pretentious as f***. I've never been but it reminded me of how I assume people behave in LA (like your mates on the telly, Katie!)
It was marginally hotter here than Sydney but we still didn't go to the beach. Well, not properly anyway.
So, first night (after some more home cookin' courtesy of Chef Norm) we decided to head out with the hostel night out and try and secure foreign relations with the rest of the room. It worked well and they could just about understand our, ahem, English, and took the banter well. Apart from that the club was dead and the DJ performed a cardinal sin (in my book anyway) by failing to beatmatch any song he played, then playing the same tunes twice. Dickheed!**
For the rest of the time here we basically just had good laughs with the people in the room, watched films by the pool at night, cooked stuff and drank a bit. It was barely worth going to any of the clubs because they were all a bit s***e. We did find a canny Irish bar though.
On the Friday us three headed out to Wet 'n' Wild for the day. It was a good laugh and after doing all the good stuff we headed back to sort ourselves out, as that night the French & German bird cooked for us all. We sat on the balcony with some beer after, played some drinking games and had a laugh. We had also by this point been joined by a Scottish lass.
The next day we checked out, and having decided to head straight up to Cairns to meet the lasses (30 hours on a bus by the way!) we thought a night stop in Brisbane before hand would be a good idea, so we headed there.
We manged to catch the Blackburn game in a bar called the Pig & Whistle (bit better than the Bigg Market version!) and then headed to bed for the journey up to Cairns.
In a bit, folks..
**I am not in any way claiming I could do better, but then I don't get up behind the decks and claim to know what I'm doing, do I?
