Hello hello!
Well, we made it to Cairns after our 30-odd hour bus journey. It was easy enough really, passed by without much incident, apart from noisy Chinese people and a burst tyre in the middle of the night..
We got into Cairns around teatime and got a taxi straight out to our hostel, which was more like a resort really, pool and a bar and all that. Bargain for about 9 quid a night (I'd have used the pound sign there but there isn't one on the keyboard!)
We checked in and met up with the 3 lasses, then prettymuch went back on what we'd said on the bus about going to bed, and went out on the town. We kick started it with 'power hour' which is just mint. Free drink for an hour! A good night was had, but Norm was straight up the next morning to go to the Airport and meet a lad called Gaz, who him and Richard (not allowed to call him Rik anymore as apprently he doesn't like it!) met in Asia.
We spent the rest of the week just lazing about by the pool, in the bar and couple of nights out, one for Richard's (!) Borthda, aswell as taking advantage of various free food offers and generally trying not to spend a s***load of money every day. It's not as easy as it looks to keep within your budget over here, you don't have to go mental to spend money, that's for sure! Having said that, Richard (!) and Norm did do a Skydive which probably wasn't cheap.
Saturday rolled around and having missed thier bus the day before, the ladies moved on to Mission Beach, but we had something important to do before we went anywhere, Great Barrier Reef man! We were up early to get the boat out, and the plan was we'd do two short dives and then have free time to snorkel, aswell as getting a bit nosebag in with the deal. Wasn't a bad deal for about 70 quid! As things went like, I ended up not doing the dives, as I couldn't get to grips with the breathing and I hated that fact. All the other 3 have done it before too, so I couldn't be arsed to hold them up. I was quite content with the snorkelling though as we had loads of time to do it, and saw some brilliant stuff. You have to do it at some point in your life!
On the return trip I decided to catch some rays on the top of the boat, but I was suffering for it when we got back. I didn't know I could go that red and get that sore! I had to forefit the night out and headed for bed. Thankfully it's all brown now!
We managed to catch the Newcastle game the following day in the Casino, at which point Gaz had moved on to pastures new and it was back to the 3 of us again.
The following day we got the bus down to Townsville to get the ferry to Magnetic Island, the next stop on the trip..
Laters folks!

Beso >Well, you've made it to the Cities, Denver, & LA, and I just checked your plane to Auckland, New Zealand, is about 40 mnteius ahead of schedule. You should be landing in about a half hour. Can't believe you totally miss May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, with the International Date Line. Weird. Hope you got some good Z's on the flight! When your summer is over, I know you'll be able to say (sing), "I had the time of my life!" So proud of you. Can't wait to see all these countries through your eyes and words. Love always, Mom
