Last few days have been a bit up and down. After last Wednesdays superday last Thursday wasn't as much fun, a few nice turns in the freshies but lots of walking in deep powder, really tires you out (or you could see it as a nice bit of exercise), so windy and still not a lot to see. Friday took it easy and went on an avalanche awareness tour. They took us up to 7th Heaven…at the top of Blackcomb mountain…where our guide dug a snow pit and went though the basics of investigating the stability of the snow layers. Just like doing a geography field trip. Next we did some transceiver basics…where you practice finding someone buried in the snow. Had a few beers with the guys from the chalet Friday night, some reggae band were doing covers…the white stripe's seven nation army will never sound the same again! The Scot's guys showed us how to do a vin diesel then got chucked out of a bar for ordering some $22 shots of some extra fancy drink….and going "Ah wot the FIK, your 'avin a laugh"
Took a rest day on Sat…really needed it. Got some gear to wax and clean up my edges as the board is of need of a mini service. Also went down with Ali to watch the rail jam (see pciture). Sunday took it easy just riding the green cat track (like a narrow run not to steep) did a few tail presses, and a little switch riding (riding backwards, or opposite to your normal direction)…pretty mellow stuff.
Today was quite full on as I started my week of freestyle lessons. Bit nervous in the morning, not riding that well, still managed to do some basic jumps, easy stuff, felt good when I stomped it and rode it out. Spent the afternoon learning what we had been taught, really s***y weather today; rain at the bottom and windy midway up. The slopes were pretty empty today too.
As I'm in to my 3rd week it reminds me of going to school; get up early, prep for the day, pack you sandwiches, bit of a hike or perhaps a bus, run around until your knackered, finish at 3ish chill for the rest of the day, watch some snowboarding movies (homework)…bed….then do it all over again.
Sun forecast for later in the week…wahooo bring it on!
