Adelaide to Tununda- 90k
Tununda to Walkerie- 110
Im aware I have missed out a section of my journey. I will try and catch up at some point. For now I am restarting it from Adelaide.
After a couple of relaxing and one very drunken day, I left Adelaide with a banging hangover, not what I had intended. Cycling in Adelaide is pretty poor and the drivers are quite aggressive and I was feeling very timid in my fragile state. I had to cut through the city to reach the hills that flank the city. I cycled into the hills and the Borrosa valley, the wine making region and the setting for the tour down under. It's like you have entered a new country, you are surrounded by vineyards and old colonial chateauxs. Palm trees and flowers line the streets and thanks to the tour down under the roads are coated with the finest Tarmac available. After cycling past and over Jacobs Creek (it's tiny, not worthy of being called a creek, it should be called Jacobs ditch) I pedalled my way slowly into the small village of Tunudra, where the caravan park charged me 33 dollars for an unpowered camp, this is extortionate and the place was full of noisy kids, f***ers!
I got up early as its been very hot recently. Australia is having a very warm autumn which is s*** for me as this delays the winds changing. Not that it matters now I only have two weeks left!! I had a good solid day, business like. I crossed the Murray river which is the umbilical cord for much of the South and South East of Australia. It looked pretty spectacular. Before long I arrived at Walkerie, the way into town is lined with huge fields of fruit. I considered doing some scrumping but i was already a fruit felon for carrying an apple through a checkpoint earlier in the day. I got to the campsite early which meant I could make use of the pool which is actually where this blog is being written from.
I forgot to tell you about the lamb! When I was cycling through Gawler on
the way into Tunundra I heard the sound of a sheep bleeting. I stopped and the poor b***** had its head stuck in the wire fence. He had clearly been there a few days and looked in a bad way. I tried to release the lamb but it was no use. I thought I would pass some farm people and tell them but I couldn't find anyone so once I reached Gawler I went to the cop shop and reported it, lol. At least my conscience was clear. The cop said he would get it sorted but didn't thank me for my efforts.
Onwards to Sydney!
