We got an overnight bus from Sydney to Melbourne. Not the most enjoyable journey ever, but it did it's job. We arrived in Melbourne at a ridiculous hour in the morning. Made our way to our hostel which is basically an Irish pub in St Kilda, a trendy suburb of the city. Was a bit of a trek to find the place which wasn't ideal on a lack of sleep. Luckily they let us check in early so we could have a deserved nap.
In Melbourne we took advantage of the free old tram which circles the city. Visited Victoria Market where we had fresh doughnuts as recommended by Mikes family and they were amazing!
We went to see the tutankhamen exhibition at the museum which is it's last visit before heading back to Cairo. Was so interesting to see all these artefacts that have survived perfectly for thousands of years. We also did another bit of culture and visited the old jail in the city. Got to try out the padded cell for size, was being used as late as the early 90s which was a but weird. In the old part of the jail we learnt all about Ned Kelly and other gruesome stories of hangings.
Now to the non-culture part.... We checked into another hostel closer to the city for our last couple of nights. Had a night out but only made it as far as the first bar as we found a group of Aussies from offices over the road who found our accents so funny they bought us drinks all night.
We also managed to meet up with Long from our Asia tour which was so nice. He literally arrived home the day before we left so we went for dinner and dragged him along to a chick flick. Got to catch up on all our travelling stories but so sad to say goodbye knowing we'll probably never see him again.
Had another sad goodbye as I left Jenn in Melbourne. Felt pretty much like losing a limb having spent so much time together!
