We said goodbye to Mike and a life of home comforts to go back to the backpackers world.
We were in Byron Bay for 2 nights and I don't think it stopped raining. So we didn't come away as fans of the place. Got to catch up with the friends we had made further up the coast which was nice, spent a lit of time watching DVDs in the tv lounge.
On the second day, Jenn, Lee and I has a walk to the beach and decided to walk to the lighthouse which is the most Easterly point of Australia. Bad move. Turned out to be an epic trek! Having done very little exercise the past couple of months, walking a very big hill (in the rain) was a nightmare. Felt awful at the top, but we maintain it was the steep ascent and the altitude... Not the burgers, pies and goon.
The journey from Byron to Sydney was a beastly 10 hours. The worst in a long time. We drove through torrential rain, got drenched at lunch. Only a couple if days later these roads were all closed due to the flooding that this rain had caused. We were so lucky to get out when we did.
