The adventures of Lucy...
Friday 31st March- Spent my final day at the Aflove project today. The children are so much better behaved here, as the area is rougher and they behave more as they do not want to get kichedout and have to go home. Just as i was leaving my flat a women overheard me speaking English, and to cut a long story short.. she asked me if i would like to come and live in her house for free, and teach her daughter English- awesome!! I then took the bus to Curitiba- took 4 hours to get there, and my friend Leandro picked me up from the bus station when i arrived. I checked in at te hostel, and then we headed to a cool bar. It was a newly converted lounge room, it was great!Met some of his friends too. When i got back, i accidently walked into the wrong dorm, i walked over to my bed and everyhing had gone! Then i realised i was in the wrong room' phew!!haha!ONly i could do that!!
Saturday 1st April- Cant believe it is April already' ahaha! I finally managed to catch the bus, after having hailed a bus from the wrong side of the road, i headed to the centre of Curitba for a look round. Checked out some shopping and went to a nice cathedral. Then Leandro came and picked me up, and we checked out some of the parks- saw such beautiful views of the city at dusk. We then went to his house and i met his family- they were all so nice! His mum gave me a huge jar of figs-mmm!!We then, along with his brother, went back to the bar that we had gone to yesterday- the live music was great.
Sunday 2nd April- today we went ot an amazing market- there were hundreds of stalls it was so cool, we also saw some live capoeira and of course lots of music. We then went to the communications tower in the centre, where we got the most amazing view of the city. We then went to their family sports/leisure club. I met some more of his family, and we had a great bbq. I spoke loads to Leandro's auntie who was really keent to speak to me in Portuguese- i loved it but felt exhausted by the end!Leandro and i went and played some pool, we then headed back to his house and i tried to coco tea! very nice!!
Monday 3rd April- talked to two awesome guys over breakfast this morning. One guy was from the North East of Brazil and was so interesting to talk too- a very traditional north Eastern brazilian guy. I had another interesting conversation with the other guy about what he thought of English people. He said that most of his friends when he was staying in England were foreign!!!haha!Checked out more of the city centre- went to another amazing church-where Leandro[s parents got married- and took some great photos, went to some art galleries, nearly got run over by a taxi. Went for a great run in the evening, then went to a fab bar- it was an Irish bar called Sherridens. There was a band playing U2 music which was great, and the decorations in the bar were fab!
Tuesday 4th April- went to the museam today and an amazing park- it was free, and had loads of lakes, and almost like a mini zoo!Caught the 14 hour bus to Rio in the evening.
Wednesday 5th April- got a police search during the night- they checked all of my bags!! Got a taxi to my hostel in Rio with this really cute old Austrian lady!I then headed to Copacabana beach with my new Chinese mate, Tree!He loved the beach so much- was very amusing! Bought tickets to see Jack Johnson!!In the evening i just chilled in the hostel and met some really nice people.
Thursday 6th April- went to the most amazing park today- it is the biggest urban forest/park in the WORLD!It was truely incredible, i went on my own and got lost on the metro and the bus- my portuguese came in handy with the bus driver though!!Walked through the park for hours, and then headed to the visitor centre to find out where the highest treck to the top of the forest was. The tour guide said i should not go on my own, so i got a personal tour guide right to the top!! We hitched a lift in something that resembled a car!!And then we started to hard treck! It was pretty difficult but so rewarding when we got to the top- the view was amazing!!We came down a different way- a little difficult as i had only flip-flops on!!The park had closed by the time we got back down, so the tour guides friend gave us a lift back, via the pub for a few beers!!Tree and i checked out a local area later in the evening, was an amazing street full of people drinking, we then met a brother and sister who spoke English well, we then headed to a party with them. It was a little club in Lapa which was great. Got back at 4!
