Hi!
Having woken up feeling refreshed after a decent night's sleep Polly and I went to San Telmo. San Telmo is a traditional Barrio in the South of the city, which hosts an antiques market, Feria de San Telmo, every Sunday. Obviously it was very busy, but nevertheless still a great atmosphere and some streets have managed to escape becoming a tourist trap! To escape the crowds we headed to Parque Lezama, which was pleasant, but not a patch on Parque 3 de Febrero! I felt that I should know more about Argentine History so we went to the National History Museum. Whilst there we were asked where we were from, when we replied England the man started to excitingly chant "Thatcher! Thatcher!"...can anyone shed any light on this?! It certainly puzzled Polly and I! On our way home we bumped into Rachel and Jen so we had lunch with them at El Desnivel, a traditional parrilla...ie v cheap, but v tasty! Getting home took forever...the bus driver drove so slowly, which I had up until now thought I would never experience in Buenos Aires! I think the reason for his slow-driving was so he could look at all the girls walking by and toot etc! You may think I'm kidding, but I'm not...he let Polly and I on the bus for free! Oh, he also stopped off at a kiosk to buy a drink and cigarettes! Can you imagine a public bus doing that in England?! It's a totally different culture here...and I love it!
