Jambo!
How is everyone? I thought after my slightly unhappy message yesterday I would come back to reassure everyone. I had a much better day t oday, no crazy people. I'm sitting in a cafe with a nice cold drink admiring my new henna tattoo (yup).
I went on a spcie tour today. I went through all the spice plantations, tasting and smelling everything.. cardammon, cinamon, pepper.. we tried all the fruits forour snack, cut straight down from the trees, skinned and given to us. There were pineapples, bananans, jackfruit, starfruit... it was amazing. Then for lunch we all sat together and had spiced rice and curry, all madewith fresh spices from the plantations.
In the afternoon we drove up to the North coast and swam at the most amazing beach. White sand and deep blue water.. it's so hot here! We looked in the slave cave, which was very humbling. It is a naturally made cave and goes back several km, with 1km to the sea, but it is very deep and dark, and hundreds of people were kept there for sometimes weeks, after the british abolished the slave trade.
On my way back I decided to get off the bus early and walk through the town a bit, as it is still very early and light. I stopped at the Zanzibar national museum, and took some amazing photos. It is a very impressive building all columns, four floors. They call it the house of wonders because it was the first building with water and electricity.
I have tried to upload photos here, but it is not working well. I will see if I can send some home, otherwise I will just have lots to show when I get back.
Happy new year, and lots of love to everyone xxx
p.s. can I remind everyone not to panic, I won't be in contact for a couple of weeks cause I'm on the East of the island, and then on safari!!!! Woop, very excited (sorry) I'll speak to you all again when I'm in Tanga (around the 11th or 12th)
