We explored Fraser Island (the largest sand island in the southern Hemisphere) by a 4x4 vehicle! Awesome 3 days! There were 10 others in our group, mix of English, German, Italian, Korean and Chinese ... we were lucky to have a good group, as other groups didn't get on! We were camping on the island.. so no toilets, washing facilities or showers for 3 days! We set up camp by the side of the beach each night - so was good fun! The stars were incredible as there was no light pollution for miles! Highlights definitely have to be the lakes on the Island, we visitedd two, Lake Wabby and Lake Mackenzie! Stunning! We also saw the Champagne pools and the famous shipwreck on the beach! Lowlight has to be having tonsillitis while i was on Fraser Island! Drained me out totally so didn't get to have a go at driving :-(. Funniest moment has to be my sleep talking! Scared Carly to death! Sat up in my sleep and shouted 'Watch out watch out there is a dingo trying to get into our tent, get the torch!' lol! Poor carly as she hates camping at the best of times! Scariest moment.. the driving of the vehicle! There were times when i thought we were going to topple it as the off roads were so bumpy and paths were covered with tree roots! Most frustrating moment was when we spent about 20minutes digging the vehicle out of the soft sand as we got stuck, then once we freed the vehicle the driver drove straight into it again as didn't understand that we were going to park the vehicle... very frustrating! We made it back to Hervey Bay (mainland) all safe and sound, no broken vehicle or bones and with big smiles :-).
