Mahinapua was a pub in the middle of nowhere where the infamous kiwi poo party takes place. Its fancy dress and each day there is a different theme our theme was the letter P so after a quick stop over at a small town to buy costumes we were ready, me as a postbox, Louise as a passport, Suzanne as a paddling pool and rebecca as a pillow! Before the party (and costumes had been put on) we were treated by Les the 83 year old owner of the pub to a steak BBQ the four of us signed up to do the washing up which got us two free bottles of wine! It was a very good night everyone made loads of effort there was a palm tree, pasta, pole volter and many more! We ended up staggering to bed at god knows what time and as soon as our heads hit the pillow Suzanne jumped off the top bunk and chundered in the bushes outside shortly followed by Louise! The bus journey the next day was horrendous luckily nobody was sick and we stopped of at a very random place that was based on hunting deer and possum- for further reference possum sausage sandwiches are not nice!
Next stop was Franz Josef where we did the glacier walk which is a 7-8 hour walk up to the top of an ice glacier going into ice caves, climbing up ice Walls and being careful not to fall down any bottomless ice gorges! It was one of the best things I have ever done we were kitted up into walking boots, waterproofs and given spikes to clip onto our boots to walk on the ice with. the first hour of the walk consisted of getting to the ice through a little jungle bit then up a really steep hill which was made up of stones that slipped under ur feet! Seeing as I am in no means the fittest person in the world I thought I would really struggle but once we got on the ice it was one if the most surreal and beautiful places I've ever been! It was hard in places but worth it once we got to the top! Loved ever minute!
