Hello Everybody,
we made it to rio - at last. After setting off far too early from Heathrow we arrived in Paris on time and tora had already broken her lent by eating a pain au chocolat on the plane. although its fine because we have decided that she is allowed to break her lent every day that she cries and it was definitely an emotional send off!
In Paris we realised that Tora hadn´t actually got a ticket from Paris to Rio (because the fool in Heathrow had failed to listen to her when she thought something was wrong)... So after a bit of a stressful turn around she did manage to get a seat. We nearly missed our connection beacuse a french woman woudlnt let us on the bus but that was sorted after some furious american started yelling and we were all so tired and stressed and panicking. but we made it so it doesn´t matter anymore!
The flight was long and boring so we won´t go into that - but on arrival we got to the hostel fine and settled into our lovely dorm... Its basic but fine, we have air con, and a bathroom and nice breakfast and dinners and they are lovely here we feel very looked after.
We have got loads done since we´ve been here, and really feel like we´ve seen a lot of rio. We went up sugar loaf where the views were incredible, and also Chrsit Redeemer. We have spént a bit of time on the beach and we also did a favela tour which was the best thing so far by a long way. the first few minutes were slightly terrifying because as soon as we got off the bus they promptly ploncked us on Mototaxis which are as dangerous as they sound and tora and i both felt at times like we were going to die. we were sitting on the back on motorbikes clutching these strange brazilian men for dear life with helmets that were bashing around on our heads going up and up the favela squeezing inbetween lorries and buses and winding roudn tight corners. at one point toras mototaxi overtook mine right around a bend and into the middle of 2 buses. so we got to the top and although it was dreadful seeing how people live it was really incredible and so worth it as we feel like we´ve seen a bit more than just the beaches while here.
anyway, tomorrow we are thinking of going to Buzios which is a really nice town outside of Rio where we might spend a night. not sure of our plans after that but we thought you might all like to know that we´re alive and loving it here!
lots of love to you all xxxxx
