Good morning,
Welcome to another blog addition. So we finally made it to Broome, after completing the 3880km to get here from Perth in our bad boy 6 litre Toyota Hiace. So anyway...we left Perth the morning after the semi-final so i had a little bit of a sore head but we left Perth about lunch time and headed up to the Pinnacles desert, passing a blown up caravan on the way...which was nice. Basically the Pinnacles is a load of rocks stuck in the ground, bit like Stonehenge but this is a natural phenomena and there's loads of them and about half the size. But anyway we got there for sunset and the photos look quite good. We stayed in the little town of Cervantes and Lucy made the dinner for the night and settled down in the back of our campervan. I couldn't sleep but Lucy loved it.
The next day we had a little drive up to the little towns of Dongara-Port Denison, when i mean little i mean little. We were so bored...we went for a walk round town but there was literally nothing to do...NOTHING. Have you ever been to a place where there is nothing to do? I have and i don't advice it.
Anyway the next morning we set off and we're meant to head to Geraldton - the capital of the Mid-West - "capital"??? I've never seen such a small capital...so anyway we thought against it and headed up the coast to the next town, Kalbarri. Kalbarri was ok, it was situated in the heart of the National Park with big river gorges and there was plenty to do...but it was so windy. It was quite hot but i had my big hoody on just becasaue it was so windy. Anyway we stayed there for the night...Lucy Ramsay cooking up another culinery feast on her two hobs and a microwave and me staying awake for updates of the Chelsea-Everton game. The next day we went walking round the gorges and despite the wind it was nice.
After Kalbarri we headed up to Denham and Monkey Mia, which is a 'World Heritage Drive', we weren't impressed. Everything that seemed to be any good was on a dirty, bumpy corrugated road...what's the point in a world heritage drive if you can only drive down them in moster trucks? We tried but not wanting to write off our car still 2000km from Broome we decided against it and stuck to the sealed roads up to Denham. Basically Denham is a place where you stay then you get up at 6.30am and drive to the Monkey Mia resort to watch "wild" dolphins come in to shore and you can feed them. Lucy loved it and got lots of photos. It was ok, just annoying we visited in school holiday season so the place was packed.
At about 9.30 and hundreds of photos later we jumped back in the van and drove the monster 660km to Coral Bay...which despite not much of a write up in the LP was the jewel of the crown. Situated on the Ningaloo Marine Park, the water and beach were amazing and they even had a happy hour in the local pub! $10 jug of beer...class! Anyway basically everybody at Ningaloo either snorkels or scuba dive's. As we hadn't done any activities up the West Coast yet we decided to shell out on a scuba diving day...it was well worth it...though we only did one dive because we had to do competency tests to see if we could dive and they didnt go too well shall we say. Mine went ok except for a leeky mask but then we fixed that but there was some foreign girl who was just rubbish. Basically you had to take your breathing apparatus out and pretend as if you'd lost it then find it again and put it back in...but your not allowed to hold your breathe otherwise yourlungs might explode becasue your down at such pressure. Anyway Lucy had a little panic when she found her regulator and it was full of water...swallowed it all...panicked...rushed to the top and cracked her head on the underside of the boat for good measure. She wasnt a happy bunny. But anyway after 10mins she relaxed and did it good...but by then it was too late as all the pro-divers on our boat had returned and we had to move on to the next dive site where we snorkelled with Manta Rays then some lunch and then this time we dived deep down...we saw all kinds of amazing coral, loads of clourful fish and even two sharks. Apparently 'reef sharks' aren't dangerous because they're so well fed on the reef...but what if they hadn't eaten well that day? Well anyway I looked them in the eyes and they swam off...defo harder than a shark. It was an amazing experience tho. We stayed another night in Coral Bay then headed up to Exmouth which is more of the same...snorkelling/diving on the reef. The beaches were amazing again...the clearest water you have ever seen and Lucy got very excited about all the kangaroos we saw too...though i did nearly kill one or two of the suicidal maniacs...they just love jumping in front of cars. Weirdos!
After Exmouth I drove the monster 790km to Karijini National Park, about as far as driving from Liverpool to Paris in one go. We went one stretch of over 100km and didnt even see another car. We got to Karijini and it was very hot, full of flies but the it was still amazing. We went on another walk to different waterfalls that you can swim in and trekked through the gorges.
After Karijini we headed to Port Headland which is basically a glorified Middlesbrough. We stayed one night and then headed to 80 mile beach...whcih does exactly what is says on the tin...and now we're here. Broome!!
We're out of internet time so bye bye xx
