Afternoon folks, welcome to the final chapter of our Australian blogging!
Sorry it's taken so long, we've been very busy sorting out New Zealand and that's taken up most of our internet time. So anyway Broome was great...probably didn't appreciate it enough whilst we were there because everything was so expensive but now we're not we're missing it and the heat and amazing beach.
We spent most of our time on Cable Beach and stayed at a caravan park in our camper across the road...next door to the pub. Happy Days! We went on a sunset camel ride and the photos we're pretty special i think you'll agree. We didn't do much else apart from tanning and playing beach tennis...but lucy is rubbish! The art of "keepy uppy" was totally lost on her and she didn't enjoy all the bending and reaching for the ball. We also saw the "staircase to the moon" spectacle...basically the moon rises like the sun. Our photos are rubbish and Lucy spent most of the time asking me why it happens...but neither of us knew why...looked good though. The only downside to Broome was that Lucy got bitten by loads of little sand flies and she looked like she had chicken pox all over her body...nice!
So we flew out of Broome two weeks ago nearly now and arrived in Brisbane via Perth. It was all going great when we arrived, it was still really warm...i had my shorts on though lucy preferred to keep her diseased legs under jeans and we went on plenty of little walking tours round Brisbane and went the movies two nights running. Anyway we left Brisbane last Saturday and headed to Byron Bay...possibly the nicest/chilled out town you're ever likely to come across. Every other person is a dread-locked, neon coloured, bare footed hippie. It's abit like a permanent Glastonbury. But after out walk up to the lighthouse on the Sunday everything changed.
It started to rain and literally it has not stopped since...the worst floods in 35 years! It's all over the news, Queensland has been declared a state of emergency and people have been killed! Great! So there's not been many photos after that Sunday.
We did go surfing on the Monday though and we we're pretty good. I managed to stand up on the first wave i rode then managed to fumble around and not catch another one till near the end of our 3hours but Lucy was awesome and looked like a proper "surfer chick" in her full wet suit and all! It was absolutely lashing down so it was probably best we we're getting wet in the Pacific anyway and the water was so warm it was like a bath you've left for a couple of hours.
On the Wednesday we headed to Surfers Paradise but that was the height of the stormy weather! It was ridiculous...it was the heavieast rain ive ever seen and it lasted for about 48hours. The beaches are all a mess, the rivers burst their banks and most places got flooded out. But we survived up on the 11th floor of our little apartment style room.
We went to Dreamworld on Friday, the Australian Alton Towers, the rides we're good but there was only about 3 of them. Then on Saturday we came to Noosa, another little backpacker town north of Brisbane but the weather has remained awful and we're staying about a $20 taxi ride out of town so there isn't much to do except watch Fox Sports and eat chocolate. Oh well. We head back to Brisbane on Wednesday and then Monday we're off to Auckland...we're both really excited to get to New Zealand even though it'll be freezing!
Until then take care xxx
P.S. If you want to see some pics you'll have to go to Robbie's Facebook page as he tried to upload the whole lot n one go and made it crash because he is silly...so to his facebook you must go! x x x
