Howdy!!
Well we made it here in one piece and our 4 star Asia Palace Bangkok Hotel was LUSH!! Swimming pool on the roof was very exciting also. First evening we headed out for a wander down to Pat Pong night market (or ping pong) as it is otherwise known eeeyyyyy ;-) for a good deal on some D & G glasses for Lucy and a slightly not so real casio for Alex!
Next day we were culture vultures and headed to Wat Pho, Bangkok's oldest Buddha temple with a MASSIVE reclining buddha coated in gold leaf with mother of pearl feet...very jazzy! Then onto the Grand Palace where Lucy covered herself appropriately in a dashing sarong number that she was quite tempted to keep, saw the emeral buddha, a very important symbol to the Thai people and followed that with a deep and meaningful discussion about the 8 disney princesses and their strengths and weaknesses! Ariel and Pocahontas came up trumps! Then onto the Khao San Road...backpacker central for some more bargain hunting. that evening we were really excited about watching the Muay Thai boxing at the Lumphini stadium but were a little disheartened when it turned out the price of 1500 Baht was four times what a Thai would pay so the 'farang' decided to go elsewhere that evening. We hailed a tuk tuk, such fun to ride, until we had a little 'incident'. Alex thought some pranksters had sped past on a motorbike and grabbed Lucy's sunglasses off her head but o no, 3 minutes and Lucy Gabe's startling reaction speed later we were to realise that it was in fact her new handbag that had been so professionally lifted. It was a relief to find that the only valuable that had been in the bag was her camera but a police report later and a quick call to the insurance company all was well. Apart from our nerves because the lovely TukTuk driver decided to chase the thieves down while weaving through four lanes of Bangkok rush hour traffic!
A couple of drinks in the reggae bar off the Khao San Road later with some fellow English travellers and the Shakira Pilgrimage was once again rocking.
Sunday we headed to the Chattachak market full of Thais and tourists alike but with over 15,000 stalls...lots to choose from. rode the skytrain to get a new camera at one of Bangkok's o so yuppy shopping malls and then set off for our nightbus to Vientianne in Lao.
