Didn't have to leave until 2 so didn't set an alarm. Was sooooo nice to wake up naturally, but then we realized it was half 10…. Checkout was at 10!! Rushed out our room as it said if you didn't check out on time you would be charged an extra night (and although we could have happily stayed there for weeks, would have missed our bus!). Luckily though as with everything in NZ they were completely laid back and didn't even mention it. Was a lovely day so went and sat by the river, started reading my book The Beach which I'm loving. All the guys were in the river, unfortunately non of the girls on our bus seem to want to get involved with a lot of the things. It might just be because lots of them are travelling together in groups but I hope in Oz they are a bit more laid back as I don't think I could manage only boys as company! Decided to go in anyway and sooo glad I did! Was cold, very cold but was brilliant going across the pully and jumping off the rocks. Pretty strong current to swim against but managed not float away! A few people had chosen to do white water rafting or horse riding that morning which would have been brilliant but we need to be careful with money, and I really liked just being by the lake and making most of the accommodation. Showered, washed my hair, had some bread (exciting!) and got picked up at 2. Couple of hours drive to a stop off in a place called Bull. It's a little town and they really play on the name of it! The name off the police station is Consta-bull, the toilets are relieve-a-able, all the bins say response-a-bull…. Literally something similar for everything there! Was a nice stop of to stretch our legs then got back on the bus for the drive to Wellington, New Zealand's capital city and right at the bottom of the north island. Arrived at about 6, and got dropped to Base Wellington. Every single hostel so far has completely exceeded my expectations. The one off's like Turtle Bay, River Valley etc have been awesome and the Base's have been pretty standard all round but clean, lots to do and just generally better than I expected. This is the first hostel I haven't been overly impressed with. It was just a bit more how I expected, not as open and little things like no individual lights, not as many plug sockets… the little things that make a difference when you're in a dorm. Plus, we were told we were only guaranteed one night here (me and Mike are staying for 3). Had a bit of a shifty guy in our dorm too who had really smelly shoes! Guessing he'd been travelling a while! It wasn't awful just not as nice as previous places. Put our stuff in our rooms then all went to one of the other dorms for some drinking games, was another tight squeeze but really good fun and we knew if would be the last time we were all together L (people are staying either 1, 2 or 3 nights in Wellington depending on how much time they have). Just after midnight we went to the Base bar, which wasn't as good as Element but stayed there a while ( girl trying it on with everyone from our group was all the entertainment we needed)then moved onto another bar near by. Me, Mike, Sophia, Phil and Mike then went for some very late dinner, my first ever kebab(but it was a posh one) which was delicious. Went back to Base at half 3 and went to bed.
