So, today was the day. I was actually going to skydive!!! I was so excited about it I didn't feel the nerves at first. Knowing I would be able to just go with it and not had to bring myself to jump out of the plane myself made it easier to think about. I was just putting my faith in the guy I was jumping with! Went down to recpetion at 9.15 and got the thumbs up that we could go down to the centre then we'd find out if we could jump. Went down and then it was up, up and away! So quick! Got into our lovely red jumpsguits, got all our saftey gear on, met our partners, met our cameraman and that was it, off into thr plane! It was a tiny plane and we were all squashed up! A lovely flight up, gorgeous views of Taupo, was easy to forget we were going to be jumping out! We were all attached to our partners and given Oxygen. Hadnt prepared myself for just how high we would be going. 15,000 feet is hard to imagine but it was very very very high! I started feeling a little wobbly but was still so excited! Once we reached the right altitude and got the ok that the jump would go ahead, the side of the plane was opened up and straight away the first girl went. Before I could even comprahend what was happening I was shuffled to the end, my legs were dangling out of the plane and before I could even think about anything I was freefalling through the air! It was absolutely out of this world. Freefall lasted 60 seconds and I can now see why everyone does crazy hands and waves and stuff! Its hard to find anyway to show what an amazing time you are having! The cameraman came so close at times! Did lots of spins and stuff and was just really surreal! When the parachute went up i was able to take in how high we are and the fact I was falling through the sky. I was put into a sitting position and it was crazy. So amazing, got to take in the views and get my breath back. Honestly the most amazing thing I have ever done, everybody should do it at some point. Still on a high now! Got back to the ground and got to pick our t-shirts, paid for it (didnt have to pay till you came back alive!) and watched the DVD. Wobbly faces all round! Have just looked at the photos and they're pretty funny! Will post some later. Absolutely amazing experience and I want to do it all again now!!! :-D
After the Skydivewe went back to the hostel and wrote the first part of this blog, uploaded photos and checked out emails. Me and Mikethen went for a walk round Taupo, looked in a few little shops and got some stuff from the supermarket. It's a nice place , our hostels right by the lake and everything is nearby. It was nice to explore as me and Mike were feeling that with such jam packed days, often the only bit of each town we stayed that we got to see was the hostel. We know its because we are seeing the best bits but we would like to have longer in each place. Who wouldn't though! The only thing about staying longer than the set night in each place though, is that you would be left behind from the group. We are really happy with the group we're in , everyone gets on really well J After some lunch, we met the other skydive group and watched eachothers DVDs which was funny! Also looked through our photos which were….. interesting!!! Haha! Then, me Mike and Cai went on a 45 min walk down the the hot spring location. It was a gorgeous area and we passed the Taupo bungy on the way which was fun to watch! Also tried some of the NZ famous drink L&P which we didn't like unfortunately! Can understand why its not famous in the UK! Anyway, the area we went to was where realllly hot water from 2 waterfalls meets the cold lake. There were a fair few people there, and it was beautiful. I can best desciribe swimming there as when you're in the bath and the water from the cold tap and hot tap hasn't mixed! They were real extremes and you could be sat in a cold bit and a massive rush of hot water comes down or the other way round. Sat in a warm bit though and it was gorgeous. Really glad we went. Walked back to the hostel and got showered and dressed as tonight we're going to celebrate Phil's birthday as he is 25 today! To be continued…..
Now I am writing for 3 days ago!!
After the last bit, we all went out to get some food etc. Most people had already eaten and me and Mike didn't have any supermarket food left. Were short on time so decided we'd just go to McDonalds….. best decision we could have made. It was just round the corner and backed onto the lake and we got there just as the sun was setting! The lake is huge, bigger than Signapore and it looked beautiful. Sat on the grass and watched the sun set while we ate… McDonalds has never tasted so good! Went back to the hostle after that. Had a wicked night for Phils birthday. 25 of us squashed into his 10 bed room for a big game of ring of fire which went on for ages as you can imagine but was a good laugh. Earlier in the day me, Mike and Cai had organized a birthday card for everyone to sign so we gave that to Phil. Went out to Element later on and had a really good night there J Best night so far, the 25 or so of us all know each other well now and we all get on really well. No one wants to split up but we know its going to happen! That's how it goes though but sure we'll find new people.
