Got up way to early along with Matt and Ian as we had booked to go on the little sunrise tour. Byron Bay is the most Easterly part of Aus so is meant to be a brilliant place to wacth the sunrise, knowing you are the first people in Aus to see it. We were about half an hour early (taking way less time to get ready than I did at home!) and saw a fair few people still up from the night before while we waited! Jonty, Dean and Mike were meant to be coming but slept in! There were about 8 of us going, only pay $5 and one of the guys from the hostel takes you down to the viewing point in a minibus. We drove past some incredible houses, some of the most expensive on the East Coast apparently and I can believe that! Then we had a pretty tiring walk for so early! Would have been nice though if I wasn't so tired, up lots of steps in a foresty bit then down to a viewing platform. I thought the location was beautiful, looking out across the sea and also seeing the waves crashing on the cliffs. Felt really peaceful :-) Now, it was a pretty cloudy morning so we didn't ACTUALLY see the sunrise which was obviously pretty dissapointing but on the bright side we saw a few dolphins which was awesome, I'd never seen anything before and although they weren't that clear it made the trip worth it. Got back to the hostel at about half 7, the boys had to pack and go so said bye bye to them then snuggled back down for a few hours which was lovely! Got up at half 10, made a start on packing my stuff as it was a mess, then met Lauren. Went to the internet cafe for a little while as Lauren had some stuff to sort out, I played on the Wii while I waited :-p Then we met Jamie and a guy called Mark who had come out with Jeremy and Billy and was travelling a little ahead of them. Zac, Billy and Jeremy had gone to the hippy town of Nimbin for the day, Lauren had been the day before and said it was a good day out but I wasn't too desperate to go so gave it a miss. The four of us got some lunch then went and sat by the beach eating and chatting which was really nice. It was another lovely day for it :) Me and Lauren then spent some time looking around the shops, all just like Rainbows in the Folly Market back home, little hippy shops, really sweet. Saw a lovely little scene of a hippy gran playing with her grandchild, teaching her songs etc, sums up the vibe of Byron really. Found a bargin chemist so trated myself to some blusher then brought loads of boring sutff like razors, paras, soap, bonjela... thought I'd get it all while it was cheap as most pharmacys charge a fortune! Got hair serum too... had missed it a lot! My only sandles which I basially live in broke on the way round town though which sucks as some places dont let you wear flipflops so I am desperatly on the lookout for some more! So made my way bare footed back to Laurens hostel with her.... it was sooo nice! A place called the Aquarius, great location. Once I saw it I wished I was staying in Byron a few more days just to stay there, had a great vibe and was like a little hotel! Apparently the rooms weren't all that but I really liked it. Found out Lauren was going to leave just one day after me which was a bit of a bum, I would have waited with her if I had known but she had only just decided to move on sooner than planned and I'd already booked ahead. Chilled out by the pool for a bit with Nicky and Kate who we'd met at Spot X. Then I popped back to my hostel to get showred, changed and grab some shoes then met them back at Aquarius once I was ready. Think it was about half 7, they were eating as they got free meals there which was cool! A group of people on a bar crawl came in so it got pretty lively and there was a bit of kareoke going on! Once the bar crawl left it quietened down and me and Lauren decided to go and check out the Arts Village. It was my last night in Byron and Arts Village is a pretty well known little hippy type village/resort so I wanted to see it before I left. Everyone goes on about how far away it is from the center, which puts a lot of people off going, but it really wasn't far at all! We met a guy heading the same way who showed us how to get there, got chatting to him - he was really interesting so that passed the time anyway although I still reckon it was under 10 mins from my hostel! It did seem pretty cool when we got there, an area with a few little shops and bars where a band was playing, a camping site, lots of teepees, the dorms and a little onsight cinema. There were some table tennis tables and pool tables etc, seemed like a really chilled out place :) Bumped into Zach as soon as we walked in, he was staying in a tent with Jamie. Met Jamie, Jeremy and Billy for a bit then me, Lauren, Jamie and Zach went back to my hostel. Were thinking about going out or to the beach, saw Jonty and Mike at the hostel who were with a ery, very drunk Dean so they stayed to look after him and me, Lauren, Jamie and Zach headed to the beach. Was gorgeous by night, you could see the light house and just down the beach from where we were sat were some fire dancers which was awesome to watch could only see the fire and not the people. The beach was really quiet, we sat chatting away for ages then the guys walked me back to my hostel - they were leaving Byron the same day as Lauren so planned to all meet up in Surfers Paradise at some point. Had all new people in my room who were already asleep so went to bed ready to make my way to Surfers Paradise the next morning :-)
