Well I'm glad to say my bag has arrived...it was like Christmas had come early! I have had a good few days with a spontaneous trip to Cape Tribulation thanks to a nice guy with a car called Tom who drove me and two others up there. The weather wasn't amazing which was a shame as we didn't get to see it at its best but it still made for a nice day which ended with a cheap meal out in Port Douglas en route home as we were all starving.
Yesterday the weather picked up and after a slight false start (due to me bringing the walking shoes that are 2 sizes too small that I had intended to return) and an emergency yet very expensive trip to the shop to replace them, I headed off to the botanical gardens with Johanna, a Swedish girl who is staying at the hostel. I would like to say we took a tour of Cairns to sight see along the way but honestly, that would be bending the truth a little as both of our geography/sense of direction was a little less that it could have been resulting in a very winding route to get there. It was well worth it though as we saw some beautiful flowered and a snake winding its way through the undergrowth. I has to get closer for a photo but Johanna was having kittens as she thought it might be dangerous and bite me! I reminded her that at least we had discovered where the hospital was during our journey there just in case! This was not needed as a very friendly ozzy soon explained when he gave her a very long and in depth explanation about the differences in snakes and how the worst it could do to me at that size would be to give me a bit of a squeeze. After another long and alternative route which I think was marginally more direct, we got back to the hostel and I spent the rest of the day relaxing with the Cape Trib folks.
Today has been good with the exception of the weather. I started my SCUBA course and there are only five of us on the course so its quite nice really, I think we'll all know our stuff as we have the instructor Scott and a German guy Manuel who is training for his dive master both teaching us. There is Erica, my buddy, Dan and Oliver two german friends and Julia a french girl. So it was back to school in the morning and then practical drills in the pool all afternoon. Unfortunately my wetsuit was too big but even then I had a right game fighting my way into it! But it did mean I was freezing by the time we finished. I soon warmed up after a shower back at the hostel and have spent the evening with my head in my books studying for the exam tomorrow. So I will sign off for now and do some last minute reading before an early night!
