Tuesday 3rd
We arrived back safely in the UK after two very long flights and a very bumpy landing at Birmingham! The weather was bloody windy and cold! We were picked up by taxi and taken back to Helen & Geoff's where we had left our car. Chris was pleased that the car started first time (those who remember the old Punto dying on us the first day back to work in 2010 will know why this was an important moment for Chris ha ha!). We drove back home and turned the heating on full blast. We had no energy to unpack so we both had a quick shower and headed straight to bed! We could have gone and collected Pepper but we both agreed we wanted a decent night's sleep without the cat disturbing us at 3am!. We had a few hours sleep before waking up for pizza (damned if I was going to cook!). I went to visit my mum to catch up on everything I'd missed, and tell her about all the things we had done in Africa. I also gave her the sheep I'd bought for her and dad - she loved them!! More importantly she wanted to see the wedding rings we had bought. The talk then moved straight to wedding organising and even discussing my dad's speech! Back to normal then!!
After getting back home to find Chris on his PC (again, back to normal), we had a cuppa then headed to bed for a proper night's sleep. I'd worked out I'd had about 40mins sleep during the 17 hours on the flights home - shattered wasn't the word.
It has been an absolutely fantastic holiday. I have seen so many wonderful things and met some lovely people, including the future in-laws! (see you in March!!) I have enjoyed everything we've done - from Table Mountain, the ostrich farm, the Zulu village, to the many drives we've taken along the South African coast. I have especially loved seeing where Chris grew up and sharing his excitement about re-visiting his favourite childhood places - even if most of them were food related. For the record - the final calamari count was 10!! I would like to thank Helen & Geoff for this amazing holiday - it's one that I'll never forget!
