Lucy's Travels
We are now in Barcelona. We left it til the last minute to organise travel so we therefore were unable to get a train. We also couldnt get a flight or a bus! We felt like the world wanted us to stay in Madrid but we weŕe not having any of it! We managed to eventually hire a car and drove across. It took us about 5 and a half hours to get there which is good timing...although I was averaging 140km!! The drive went really quickly and it was easy as it was just one road all the way.
We arrived in Barcelona at 10.30pm so it was dark and we didn know our way around. As we had no accommodation booked we parked in a secure underground car park and planned on sleeping in the car! El Cheapo!
We headed out to get a couple of drinks and some dinner. We right right on Port Vell which was all lit up, it was beautiful. We went to another bar after our food and sat at the bar - Itś cheaper to drink and eat at the bar here - itś about 2 euros extra to sit at a table! Whilst getting the bill the pub had a power cut! We had to wait for the bar staff to faff sround sorting the lights out but they couldn fix it for ages! We got chatting to a guy at the bar who was English...Itś strange how he was asking us things to say in Spanish as he just walked up to the bar waving and saying "Hello" !! My spanish is getting better by the day its easy to pick up.
This bloke bought Lucy and I a Tequilla!! My first ever one and quite possibly my last!!! We headed back to the car around 2am and settled down to sleep. What we didnt realise was that the car park was so hot! We had the air con on in the car and forgot to turn it off. The next morning the battery was dead and we couldn start the car! Women!!
We tried phoing the car company but couldn get through so we got on the metro up to the train station where the company is based. We managed to sort out help which would arrive in 45mins to an hour. We got the metro back to the car and had some breakfast. After that we waited for the car to be fixed. Once the car was fixed (for free) we drove up to the station to take the car back!! So much hassle!
We booked into a hostel which was 45euros including breakfast but very small rooms. The man who worked there was so rude to us that we vowed not to stay there another night so this morning we left and got into Hostal New York which is really good I would definitely recommend... I'm even getting used to shared bathrooms and showers!!
Loving Barcelona although excited about Italy. Spent today on the beach but will be sightseeing in the next day or too - watch out for more photos.
