HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
Here's how my night went.... Caroline came over to the hostel at 6 with Champagne (A small bottle of Moet!!) We drank that whilst getting ready the hostel was dead as everyone had gone to the bridge to get a good seat. We decided to walk down to the bridge and bought another bottle of Champagne on the way! It took us half an hour to walk down, the streets were closed off and there were so many people!! But nothing prepared me for what I would see when we got to the Bridge - Thousands of people were sat around (Probably been there since 7am!) There was no space to walk around and everyone was squashing each other trying to get through. We headed to the ferry port as we were heading to Luna Park which is North Sydney..
When we finally got there after about 10 minutes pushing our way through we were told the ferries had stopped and that there was no way of getting across to the Park!!! We managed to fight our way onto the street which had fewer people and some ambulance men told us we might be able to catch the train... We had to get 2 trains but the journey only took about 10 minutes. We went over the Harbour Bridge and saw Luna Park come into view. As we made our way out of the train station we saw the masses of people covering the grass area under the bridge. We had to walk for another 10 minutes to the entrance of Luna Park.
Once inside we headed straight for the Ferris Wheel - The first lot of fireworks were at 9pm and we got on the Ferris Wheel at 8.45. We got off at 8.57 - So close to seeing the fireworks from a great view! We did, however, make it to the viewing area in time and had the perfect view - The fireworks were right in front of us! And they were spectacular.
Once the fireworks stopped Caroline and I went on all of the rides - Although there went a lot of them. Luckily the queue's weren't too bad, in fact even though there were over 6000 people there it didn't feel that busy. We got some food and our first alcoholic beverage and then headed to get a spot for midnight. We were heading into the viewing point full of people when we noticed the Platinum VIP Area to our left - With no bouncer! In we went and tried to fit in! We had the perfect spot and as it was VIP there weren't too many people getting in the way. The fireworks at midnight were the best I've ever seen and they went on for so long...They were coming from the Bridge, the Opera House and over other parts of Sydney.
We went on a few more rides and checked out the DJ - That room was full with people and it stank of sweaty bodies so we left quickly! I won 2 teddy bears which I was well chuffed with and then we headed home. We walked back which took forever - Over an hour. But we walked across the Harbour Bridge and the views were amazing from there. Everyone walking past was giving us high fives - We were also wearing our pink cowboy hats we'd bought at Luna Park!
When we got back to the hostel (Finally!) We met up with Will (Who was very drunk), Gaz, Adrian, Mike, Craig & Jenny. We were the only ones there so we decided to play a drinking game! We were up drinking until 8am - We obviously picked on Will so he was very drunk but he did stay up til the end!
It was the best New Year's I've had, there was so much Hype about this night and we weren't disappointed. Would definitely recommend doing this and seeing just how many people turn up to it.
(Sorry everyone that this is so long!!!)
