We all had a good nights sleep. Must be the fresh air. Did not feel cold. I did awake at 2.30 then went back to sleep. Awoke around 7am. Well went to sleep at 8p!,. A slightly clear sky, no rain and temp around 52f. Went to have breakfast at the house. Felt funny being the only people there. Had 2 fried eggs, toast, bacon (crispy) and a bowl of fruit. Also had some freshly picked plums and coffee. Sat catching up on my blog. Still very slow to upload photographs. Petted the cat and saw some deer nearby.
We decided to travel few miles to see the ghost town of flora. This was a gold rush town that has been abandoned with only a few people living there. Getting there we saw an abandoned church and some buildings which were empty. Thee were also people living in some restored houses. A strange place. Antique cars also littered the side.
Taking the hosts advice we drove a bit further on the OR3 to the Grande Ro de river. This entailed navifpgating down a very steep and twisty road with 76 hairpin bends. Yes 76.... felt quite dizzy after that. Amazing that we saw some logging lorries coming up and down this bends with huge trucks full of immense logs. On the way we crossed into Washington state. The view was great. Found the river and also a refreshment stop called brigands oasis.cookies at $1 plus coffee revived me. Talked to a couple from Oregon who wanted to know ours views on brexit. A nice couple. They are eating a biscuit which to us would be called a scone. However he was only putting jam on it. Language is funny. He liked the idea of clotted cream. After a nice stop and another steep drive back up the mountain with Martin having the outside view and getting vertigo. We stopped at the top to take photographs. Back to rim rock for some rest and relaxation. I did some drawing of the canyon. Nit very good while Martin dad. It was getting warmer. Decided to go on the short trek to an overlook of the canyon that Cabot , the owner, recommended. When we git there you could see up and down the canyon and appreciate the size. It was spectacular and very quiet with us being the only people there. A lovely day.
Decided to eat early at 5 pm. Had the same meal as last night with the exception of I had a burger. The main meals are not great. Went back to the tent. A lovely clear night. Went to sleep when it got dark about 7pm!!!! It was cold. We both had clothes on and several layers. I awoke at 2 ish to the sound of one of the large crickets which had got into the tent. Managed to get it out as it was very loud. Looked outside and the most amazing view of the stars as no light pollution at all. Woke Martin because he had to see this. They looked very close, very bright and huge. Watched until my feet froze and went back to bed. Ejected another cricket at some god awful time!!! Eventually sleep.........
