Despite all the travelling i felt full of energy and up early. Sun shining and it looked a great day weather wise. Caught the tram over the river and got off to find the market. There were two on. We had decided to look at the nearest one which was mixed food, craft etc. Walked along the river and saw lots of canadian geese.
The market was huge. One of the best i have seen. Had breakfast. I had a steak philly sandwich and martin pulled pork. We had fresh fruit and coffee to finish. Lots of craft and arty people. Very clever. Bought some presents and i treated myself to a photo necklace and a braclet made from an american tin can. Also had my portait drawn zombie style. Very walking dead!!! Bought a marionberry ice cream . A fruit only grown in oregon.
Spent several hours there and walked to downtown where a pop up contemporary art museum had been set up. A lovely square with an amplitheatre. Found the tourist information and a guy called rick gave us the lowdown on travelling oregon. Found the usa rare pokomon taurus. Walked to the pearl district which has the independent shops. Bought a root beer cupcake. Ok ish. Found a wool shop where we ended sat on comfy chairs talking about american politics- trump v clinton and trying to describe brexit to some democrats. Very enlightening. However did not buy any wool as very expensive.
Found powells books where you needed a map to find the dystopian novels and craft books. The craft books occupied an area larger than waterstones. Too many as could not choose.
Booked into the largest independent micro brewery and eaterie called deutsches. Very busy and the place to be on a saturday night. I had a mac n cheese and martin the equivalent of a ploughmans. So much food. We had some craft beers to go with it. Very good food but we had to leave some and could not manage the desserts. Shane
Shame as i fancied the peanut butter ice cream. Caught the tram back to the hotel and crashed as been out twelve hours.
Impression of portland were that it was a laid back, very open city that was very arty and individual. Very clean and friendly . Lots more to do there.
