Made it up to Heathrow and Premier Inn without any trouble. Flight now 9.30. Parked car right by airport. Customs and security checks ok. Off we go. The flight was with BA and takes ten hours. Watched two films, ate their rubbish food and could not sleep. Martin out like a light. Customs checks lengthy at Seattle. But all ok. We then had to collect bags and check in again at seattle for Alaskian airways and our connection to Portland. Very relaxed security but still full body scan.
The hop from Seattle to Portland had the most stunning scenery of small islands and tall huge snow capped mountains. Mount St Helens the nearest erupted in 1982.
Arrival at Portland 4pm their time. A mere 18 hours travelling time after leaving the hotel in london. I should be tired but i am not....buzzing. The temperature is a hot 84f. Collected hire car toyota camry, same as california trip and made the drive along the i 205 and i 84. Found hotel.... the Inn at the Convention Centre. Not luxury but parking is free as downtown hotels charge almost £40 a night for parking.
Once recovered walked over to main Portland. Lots of cyclists. The bridge was very industrial. The riverside was seedy as this part is China town. More homeless and drifters around. Into town very impressed by the older buildings. Stumbled across Voodoo doughnuts and bought a bubble gum and roal dahl inspired ones. Huge sugar rush. The best doughnut ever.....
Getting tired so caught a tram back which has a stop right outside the hotel. Then bed ...
