Woke up to sunshine and a reasonable temperature with a bit of wind. Had breakfast in our house and the walked on the beach. It was breathtaking. Walked to the right of us towards bandon where you can see face rick, cat and kittens, haystack and table rock. The tide was coming in slowly over the golden sand creating ripples. The views were stunning with water crashing against the rocks against a blue sky. The air is clear and there were very few people around. The beach is long and remote.
After the bracing walkwr drive down to the harbour using the beach loop road. By this time the weather had changed. We stopped off to see face rock and the visibilty was not as good as our early mornong walk.
We drove to the harbour and easily parked our car on the street. All free parking. We found the farmers market which is held on a friday. It is in a large shed at the end of the harbour. There were crafts people as well as food. Bought some sour dough bread, cinnamon bread and local cheese, bought some fleece indoor socks made by a local indian woman for glendas children. There was a veg stall outsidewith the sweetest melons (had samples) the mist enormous tomatoes and apples i had seen. All oregon grown. Bought some for our evening meal. Found the large fudge shop selling all manner of sweets and the cranberry shop selling all manner of sweets and cranberry jam. Most of the worlds cranberries are grown in oregon which is home to ocean spray... we had lots of tasters of popcorn, fudge and chocolate. Bandon town is small with lots of small shops selling gifts, antiques, clithes, books etc. We were quite happy to mooch around. Needed food as lunchtime and found a small plAce where we had a roll with chips which were crisps. Usa name for crisps. Martin had a large salad with cranberries in. Met a dutch lady on holiday there.
After lunch and endless coffee ( free fill ups) we found an arts place which had a huge fish outside made from discarded plastic. Very teignmouth arts trail. Went inside and i was invited to make part if a whales tail for an exhibition they were making. The tail was going to be 10 feet tall. I helped to make a piece about a foot across by tying plastic pieces to a wire mesh. This involved drilling holes. Great fun. Two californian ladies were also doung it. Martin went for a beer whilst i was doing this. Great fun and pleased to be part of something.
Walked around a bit more and found a quilting shop where i bought a kit shwing the lighthouse we had seen. Yes i will do it!!! Drove to a fused glass place which was more of a workshop and gallery. Had some nice pieces including a hanging sand dollar(type of shell)
Drove back to the house and had our great oregon dinner washed down with oregon wine.
Had a long walk on the beach and then to bed. A great day again will be sad to leave.
