Hey!
making use of free internet..theyll probably send us a bill in a few weeks tho cos nothing is free in thailand! we spent 3 amazing days up in the mountains last week on a trek which we named our selves as Team A Trek haha, there was me and stu, another english guy, 4 dutch, 1 brazilain, 1 candaian, 1 swiss and tim from thailand. we loved them all and we became really close.
the walking on the first day was the hardest cos it was in the middle of the say so was so hot. when we arrived at the village where we were staying it was all so worth it. we stayed in VERY basic conditions but the people in the village live like that every day of their lives so we did. but only for 2 nights! we slept in bamboo huts which were very cold and uncomfy but for the first time since arriving in asia i felt like we were in thailand. the children were beautiful and so special. they were fascinated with every thing we had-cameras,bags etc and just wanted to play with us. they put on a little show for us in the evening and dressed up and sang and danced. it was one of those moments where you cant ever get it back and cant really describe it except you just wanted to smile and hug them. It made some people cry. it was really was emotional, as these kids lead such different lives without luxurys or anything, but still they seem so happy. It makes you realise how in england we take nearly everything for granted. The whole 3 days actually made us more appreciative of everything. The second day was met with more walking to a waterfall which felt so amazing and cooling after sweating way too much. Moving on to the elephant trek. We were aloud to ride these massive animals for about 40 mins. we both even sat on the neck, rding bareback on an elephant. Was really special!!!! One of the elephants had a little baby, 2 years old and just under a ton. she was the sweetest thing and i managed to catch some incredible film of it rolling around and playing in the mud. Staying in a quieter village, that night was even colder and uncomfy with no-one getting any sleep. Feeling sleepy in the morning we were all awake by the time we had such a laugh Bamboo rafting!!! 4 people stood on a few logs with only more bamboo to push your way down the river. This was so peaceful but crazy at the same time. You had to be careful not to brush any trees as the fireants would get you. about half an inch long and would bite their head under skin if they could!! I(stu) fell in as I misjudged the end of the raft which was hilairious but the water was so fresh and cool it was nice although slightly embarassing. A much quicker drive back to chiang-mai (downhill) and we all met up for a group social. Was a really nice eve, and was so tired and trekked out that I was a very special 1 pint wonder. The trek was so much fun and made some really good friends that it was so worth doing and we would reccomend doing it if visiting thailand. Just get ready to sweat!!!
Lots of Love
Stu and Lauren x
