We were glad to get out into some fresh air when we arrived in Bled after being in Vienna for 2 days! We stayed at a beautiful guest house that a local lady owns, it felt like we were staying at someones grandmas house. She was a lovely lady and cooked awesome scrambled eggs!!
Once we got ourselves settled in we went for a walk down to the beautiful Bled lake, from here you can see the huge castle on top of the moutain that looks over the town and the island in the middle with the famous castle on it where people come from all over the world to get married!! The lake has such clear water and it is surrounded by snow capped moutains, very nice place to take photos and in winter it is meant to be even more beautiful when the whole town is covered in snow!
We went to a beautiful little pub for dinner and a few beers, in the bar it almost looked like the Daily Waters pub in N.T with number plates stuck all over the roof and bits and pieces hanging off the walls!!... their was a few Aussie ones up there too!!The meal was beautiful we had beef goulash, which has become our favourite meal throughout Eastern Europe, every place has their own style!!.. and different styles of potatoes... but this one was one of the best!! After dinner the owner of the pub a (little old lady) shouted us all a glass of her own berry liquor, it was pretty strong but we all enjoyed it!!
We then went to the cake shop that invented the famous "Bled cake", which is pretty much like a really nice and light vanilla slice!! Really good!!
The next day we went down to the tour office with Ivan our leader who found out that most of the activities are still closed because it is out of season.... but he managed to get us booked into a big lift that took us up the moutain 1km to see the snow!! This ended up to be a highlight of the trip and we were all wishing we had snow gear as the snow looked so good!!... we had a few beers at the pub over looking the snow fields sitting in the sun, Ivan summed it up by saying "this is life" ha ha... i think he was trying to say the Aussie expression "This is the life"!! ha ha
We loved Bled and it would definately be somewhere that we would like to come back to in the snow season!!... The slovinian countryside that we passed along the way looked amazing with little towns scattered through the moutainous country!!
