I was picked up by Principal Ma and my interpreter, Alice. (I do not know her Chinese name.) Principal Ma had an important meeting at the Provincial Gov't office in Xi'an. This meant that Alice I were to spend some time "walking around". We walked around the market and sites I had walked a few days before. Tedious, but at least I got some exercise.
Alice is an English teacher at Principal Ma's school. We communicate pretty well, but not even close to Maggie's excellent English. I am afraid there is much getting list in translation. Not much I can do but continue to smile, compliment and say 'Very good' and 'very beautiful'. Happy to just be here. J
After visiting a beautiful temple, we drove to Wugong County, about 100km from Xi'an. In China, a county is a small part of a city, the opposite of the U.S. We passed by his beautiful school and into some questionable areas of the city (1.2 million people) of Shannxia. I got a little worried about what my accommodations might be. We traveled another 10 minutes and came to a very nice part of the city where my hotel is located. Fhew!
Once I put my luggage in the room we went to dinner and caught up on conversation. Great to be with Principal Ma. He brought his wife to dinner. She seems to be a very nice lady. After some good conversation I arrived back at my hotel to unpack and hit the sack. Happy to be in Wugong and looking forward to seeing some students. J
