Lou in Europe
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!
I certainly have left it too bloody long between journal entries, I have sooooooooooo much to say!
Just uploaded photos from 2 weeks- bet you didn't think I had a camera did ya?! Well, from where I left most of you last in mykonos after my sorry email explaining the loss of certain possessions, a few days later after a lot of trouble, frustration, hurricanes and run around, we managed to get ourselves off the island of Mykonos and back to our favourite of all islands, IOS!! On the way we stopped at Naxos which proved to be soooooo unbelieveably cool even tho we were only there for literally about an hour while we waited for our next ferry, but it was there that we scored some new items, one being my new and fabulous camera! No more dinosaur (if you saw my old camera you'd understand) may he rest in peace wherever he is.
The next item we attained was a new friend! He was from Melbourne and such a cool guy named Luke. He had been travelling around for 6 months by himself and was such a fully sick bro but really cool. Just really funny, was great to have him on the ferry coz even tho the girls were listening to their ipods, he kept me entertained with his rude stories and blatant comments about women's breasts which we have all seen plenty of in our beach hopping travels!
So happy to go back to Ios... Can't even explain how much I love it there, it's just this really small place where if you're there for a few days you really get to know people and familiarise yourself with the same faces... everyone is so friendly and it just rocks!
I may be slightly biased as there was one particular aspect of Ios that I was especially excited about returning to - the boy, Ziorzos... and that was sooo great, but the rest of our time there was so incredibly cool. We planned to stay for 3 nights and ended up staying 5 - prob would have been more had it not been for limited availability on flights out of Athens.
First night we got there round 5.30pm and went straight to our hotel... the people who own the hotel were so happy to have us back! We went for dinner at our favourite restaurant, Harmony then down to buy drinks from the mini mart. Butterflies in my tummy at this point in anticipation of seeing my man! Went and saw him at work after and it was soo nice he was so happy to see me, and vice versa!
Went out that night to the main square lots of fun! Didnºt have too big a night tho (altho the girls did!) but mainly spent the time outside with Ziorzos just catching up on what had seemed like a very long week. He had also had some stuff of his go missing which was pretty gay!
Went out the next night - the best night! I had bought a new dress in the day, so pretty, I had seen it the last time I was in Ios and wanted it but not got it so I'd said that if it was still there I was going to get it when we went back! Itºs in the photos so check it out! All the photos are really funny from that night, we were all pretty drunk and met up with our French friends from last time we were there, Garcon (whose name is actually Silvin, but we call him Garcon- too his face too, but he doesnºt seem to care!) and he had a french friend with him too, named Jen Lauren. He turned out to be the biggest so-so (?) but we did have a fun night with them. Met up with Luke too who was sooo much fun to party with (more fun for some than others er-erhm Sophie!) - we actually met up with him most nights we were there just being out, he was heaps of fun!
Spent lots of time in the sun, at Ios palace on those delicious beds by the pool, we actually met a cute little kitten there who hung there most nights, such a little cutie ginger and white and sooo playful!
Totally random - bumped into an old friend of Ella's named JayJay, another Aussie and a very cool guy! Hung out with him quite a bit, he was looking for a job having spent the last month travelling round and run out fo money, which at this stage of things we are all really starting to relate to. Checked my balance this morning so so so so so not cool. Ewwwww.....
Anyway had one particularly fun night where we didnºt even go out. We were hanging with one of the frenchies who seemed to think he was on a date with Sophie, even tho we had asked both of them to come to the beach where we were... anyway, we were hanging at the internet cafe where we had been coaxed in when just walking past but couldnºt really say no to coz the guy who works there and always give us cheap net access invited us to sit down. This guys is crazy, I swear to God. At first he just seemed like this really cool american dude. Heºs such a chiller, this black guy who wears these crazy hats and sits there all day just talking s*** to people, heºs really friendly and remembered us from last time. Anyway, we sitting there and heºs like`So, you guys coming to the wedding at Purple pig tonight? 2 people from the island got married there 2day and are having a big party tonight. You guys should definitely come.` We were all just kind of thinking um yeah ok, is this for real? But he was just like `Oh yeah it's gonna be great, everyone's gonna be there, you gotta come.` So we were like, sure ok sounds cool. And he starts jumping up and down saying `Oh YAY! I'm so excited Yay! I'll just get my stuff and we'll go. Yay!`
So we go along to this thing and should have guessed from the serious lack of music or sound coming from where we were heading that something was not right, but there was like 6 of us and we were just kind of looking at eachother like, errr....
Anyway we go up there and there's literally 5 ppl that none of us knew at all sitting around this table just talking. The bride is just looking at us like we're so weird, not to mention rude. The black dude starts saying `HEY! You know these guys don't you? Yeah, you know em... It's all good!` and we're just like `Oh yeah, congratulations... ` and she just continues to glare at us. We just turned around and walked out, was soooo embarassing. They must have heard us pissing ourselves laughing as we walked away. Soooo funny!
Bloody wedding crashers!
The rest of Ios I could harp on and on about but having already written one very long winded entry about Ios, I won't keep on and on.
IT TOTALLY ROCKED MY WORLD AND I WILL BE HEADING BACK TO GREECE HOPEFULLY IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE!
Athens was very cool. Had not even a whole day there but the time we had we made the most of. Found a great hotel, altho very expensive coz all the hostels were full, but it was within walking distance to the acropolis which we went to after a great meal on the day we got there, but it had already closed. We ended up going back there the next day in the morning and oh my god... one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Got the best photos we were the first people in there and so no bloody tourists were blocking our photos, plus these soldiers were doing their moring salute to Athens marching through there when we were there and we got photos of that too. SO COOL! Went to the embassy after where I picked up my phone - THANKS MUM! And met these aussie girls who had their whole bags stolen from a private room in corfu with everything taken.... so sad. They were soo shaken up and one of the girls who had only been away a week had to go home coz she didnºt even have any clothes. I felt soooo sorry for them and just realised how terrible things can get, and how lucky we have been.
Anyway, I totally loved Athens, Greece - so my kind of place and I was sad to leave. But onwards and upwards, as they say. The rest of Europe awaits. Beginning with Glasgow, our next destination for 20 hours in between Athens and Portugal, where we are now. Our flights wokred out cheaper with a stop in Glasgow so we went there for a night and had our first dorm exprience. DIRTY AS! Ugh... better get used to it tho... we made the most of it and did a little bit of glasgow - saw a drug deal takes place in Georges square! Just the touristy stuff, you know!
That brings us to here.... Faro in portugal... so great. So incredibly different to Greece and Scotland for that matter!
Went to Faro beach today which was lovely and made friends with an American girl who has been living in Spain for ages, so she told us great places to go here and in Spain and some places to avoid. Plus she was able to order our lunch in portugese for us. So impressive! We will go to Albufiera tomorrow for a few nights and then to Lisbon after for a few before heading ont Espana! Been practising my Spanish and trying to teach the girls a thing or two. Un porquito!!!!~
Can't wait... loving it... never want to leave altho I really miss you guys, and am starting to miss not living out of a back pack, clean clothes, clean showers, toilets and all the otehr creature comforts of home.
Loving the tan, sun, freedom, partying, meeting new people - altho saying goodbye is really hard... it's going to be a shock to my system to come home and face the real world so I gotta lap this up as much as I can!!
Anyway, love you all... please look at my photos and post a quick messge. I love to hear from you!!!
so much love xoxox
Adios!
