I made it! I arrived yesterday afternoon after a fantastic flight here with Air New Zealand. Everything was on time, the planes were very comfy and i managed to even sleep for a toal of 11 hours, which is why i proabably don't have jet-lag.
I got picked up from Christchurch airport by a guy called Mark who actually owns and teaches us at the school. He seems a great bloke and a real laugh but if you don't do things his way and don't listen to what he's trying to teach you about skydiving he will chew your ass off!! He's a bit scary but he knows what he's talking about!
On the way to Methven he took me to the school and i meet all the guys and girls that started in the October course. I have never met so many nutters in one group in my entire life!! The Drop Zone is absolutely stunning, it's set right at the base of the mountains. Everything is so green and gorgeous and very chilled out and calm. Every Thursday night at a pub called The Lodge is Beer Night, so of course i just had to go! A guy called Cameron who in my course joined me and we went and met up with the October lot. I thought it was just gonna be a quiet one but oh no! Didn't get in till 5am this morning but i've already met some great mates, my face was aching this morning from laughing so much! And 4 of them have already moonied me from the schools mini bus!
This week i'm staying at Snowdenn Lodge which is a hostel and it's lovely! Already gone to ask about house rentals and it's so much cheaper so a group of us are probably gonna do that asap!
It's so hot here at the moment, yesterday and today have both been between 33 and 38 degrees! I'm sitting here in my flip flops, shorts and strap top! The guys were saying at this heat you just end up dripping in your jump suit! Nice!
Got a few more of our group arriving tmrw and 2 more on Sunday. Had a good old chat with the Scottish dude and his mrs today and we can't wait to get started. Spoke to Mike and on Monday it's just gonna be paperwork day and just meeting everyone properly. Tuesday and Wednesday we start with ground school, learning about all out gear. Thursday and friday we're learning to pack our chutes. By the sound of it we're gonna be up in the air pretty quick! I can't wait to do my first jump! School starts at 8am every morning and pick up from the centre of town is 7.45am. He says as soon as the clock hits 7.45am he leaves so no being late otherwise you've got 6 miles to walk!!
Methven is tiny and i mean tiny. If you were driving through and you blinked you might actually miss it!! Population is 2000 apparently but i've only seen about 200!! If you live here it's either because you're a Skydiver doing the course or a farmer! Christchurch is an hour away and that's a city so civilisation isn't far away!
All in all it's going good so far! I still can't believe i'm actually here!
Love you all, lou xx
