Today we braved the fog and the chill to catch the cable car, then bus #30, to the Exploratorium.
It turns out we caught the wrong cable car so finding the bus stop was a little trickier than expected, but as we weren't in a hurry it didn't matter. Joe was keen to see Fisheman's Wharf (it features in a video game he is currently obsessed with) anyway. http://www.fishermanswharf.org/
We also wandered past the famous Boudin Sourdough Bakery and watched a baker make a loaf shaped like a teddy bear through the window. Looks like a perfect spot for lunch one day!

Once we found the bus stop, we made our way to the fairly ritzy Marina neighborhood and the gorgeous Palace of Fine Arts building. http://www.palaceoffinearts.org/Welcome.html
The Exploratorium is a huge interactive and educational science center, full of hands on experiments kids can play with. Joe was rushing around like a bee in a bottle, he was so excited. The others too - we didn't see much of them for almost three hours until they needed lunch.

Once we'd fed them and they'd had another play, we were able to drag them off with the promise of the soda fountain at Ghiradelli Square.

While we waited at the cable car terminus we were entertained by a busker on a banjo - and by Joe, who started dancing, much to the amusement and enjoyment of the busker and the queue of people waiting for the cable car.
We stopped off once more on the way home to visit the Cable Car Museum (free) next door to the apartment.
A full and fun day had by all - then after dinner Siobhan and I had some girl time in the city looking through Saks Fifth Avenue for an hour or two.
Unfortunately this must have been when I dropped the two City Passes that were in the pocket of my coat! Bummer.
