Hi!
I arrived in Hong Kong safe and sound. Its an 11.5 hour flight to get here - but its worth it! I really like this city, there is lots to see and it is really easy to get around on the public transport.
I am staying in Kowloon. Yesterday I got the ferry across the harbour to central Hong Kong Island so that I could take a tram up the hill to get a great view of the city (the picture above is the view from that point). The hill is so steep the buildings you pass look like they are at a 45 degree angle! In the queue for the tram I got chatting to a girl called Laura from near Amsterdam. She was on a stop over from Australia. We got on well so we went for a coffee to wait for it to get dark so we could see the view by night. We then went for a couple of drinks on a busy road of bars and clubs. All in all it was a nice day!
Today I've been to the Zoological and Botanical gardens which were pretty. Mind you the most interesting thing I saw there were some little kids on a school trip. The all had to walk two by two holding a rope - what a great idea (as long as they don't run off!!).
I've just caught the metro (or here its called the Mass Transit Railway MTR) a little way to see the Golden Bauhinia Square. After that I'm going to go back to Kowloon to walk around the markets. I hear there is a goldfish market which sounds interesting.
Love Louise x.
PS I'm a bit concerned. With all the medical stuff I had to bring on my mum's advice (e.g. first aid kit, vitamins, plasters, a huge number of Immodium tablets etc) I have brought less clothes than if I was going on an away job for a week........but I'm away for over 6 months!!! I'm going to be absolutely fansatic at hand washing by the time I come home .
