Louise & Lucy's Trek: Round The World In 80 Days
Just back from our sailing trip, and thought we should update you with all our news!
Previously on Louise and Lucy's Round the World in 80 Days Trek we had visited Uluru and the joeys in Alice.
We then headed to Cairns (on a flight which took 2 hours, instead of a bus which would have taken 3 days?! Mwahaha! This place really is huge!). After a relaxing first night consisting mainly of eating, drinking and sleeping, we then got up the next day and Lucy got her bank card swallowed by an ATM... you've just been in an area with all these crocodiles, and its the bank machines that you have to watch out for!!
After wandering about we went to the Cairns night markets and ... we are ashamed to admit it... the cinema!! By the way, for anyone who might be interested, dont bother seeing the Break Up... it really isnt worth the $14!
Next morning we picked up our new tour group and headed to Mission Beach, taking in a couple of rainforest walks to find tree kangaroos and cassowary birds. All we found were leeches and turtles!
Next day we headed to Magnetic Island, where the weather was gorgeous! Went sea kayaking, where we nearly drowned and our tour guide had to rescue us from being smashed off the rocks because we were too busy laughing!!
Went on a 2 hour walk to find koala bears, saw none, but managed to spot one on the bus ride back!! See photos for evidence!
We then made our way to Airlie Beach - where we still are now! Gorgeous sunny weather! After a night out with our dormitory, consisting of 8 people, including ourselves, two irish girls from our tour group decided to shack up with two of the guys from our dormitory! Needless to say, nobody got any sleep that night, as one couple occupied the bathroom while the other took photos of themselves while Lucy was trying to sleep in the top bunk!! AAGGHHH!!! YUCK!!! We guess its part of the experience of travelling around on a budget - but we are not keen to have it repeated!
The next day we went sailing round the Whitsundays for 3 days! Unfortunately it did actually rain for the whole of the second day. However we did get to go snorkelling a few times in fringe reef - off the Great Barrier Reef - in fabulous stinger suits (all in one-lycra jobs!). Sorry, guys, no photos (they are not for public consumption!). Returned today to gorgeous weather in Airlie.
Now off for a night out with our crew and fellow passengers! Dont worry we will teach you all the bad jokes and new drinking games we learnt while on board our maxi ship when we get back!!
Off to Kroombit tomorrow (leaving at 7am!!) - so probably catch up in Hervey Bay! Toodle pip!!
