Louise & Lucy's Trek: Round The World In 80 Days
Hello everyone! Sorry about the long absence, but we are on holiday after all!
After leaving Airlie Beach we headed to Kroombit Cattle Ranch, on the way taking in the popular national pastime of lawn bowls. Which we were both useless at - but then we figure we are fifty years too young for this kind of thing!
Arriving in Kroombit we had a typical cattle ranch dinner - round the most enormous table you have ever seen! Then tried our hand (and legs, and arms and heads!) at whip cracking! Neither of us managed to crack a whip, but we did succeed in beating ourselves up fairly well!
Lucy then tried out her 'skills' (her word!) on the mechanical bull, see photo album! She managed a grand total of... wait for it... 3 seconds!! Wahay!!
Next morning we went on a fascinating, no truly, fascinating (yawn) geological walk, where we found some black granite and goat poo. It really was very educational! We guess Australian hills dont quite cut the mustard compared to the Scottish highlands!
We then had a goat rodeo ('cos cows are too big!). It took three of us to catch and milk a goat - was pretty funny! We then got to hold a baby goat each, but dont worry, neither of us want kids yet! Ha ha ha!!
Then we did our clay pigeon shooting, which we kicked ass at!! No, really!! We had 5 shots each, and both hit 5 clay pigeons each! First time too! So after we get back, both of us have decided to go into the Scottish team for the clay pigeon shooting - see you in China for the Olympics!!
Got to Hervey Bay that afternoon and went for a couple of drinks - where huge bats kept flying over our heads (but no one could see them apart from Louise, so everyone thought she was imagining it!! Batty, or what?!). Also had an interesting chat with another boy on our tour bus who confessed that he had been woken up 2 nights before by an Irish girl of dubious character, having a great time in the bed below him! Yup, its the same girl that kept us awake the previous night! No shame that one.
Next came Fraser Island... After a short ferry ride across from Hervey Bay we met our ranger, a brilliant guide, called Pete. We went swimming in Lake McKenzie and some more rainforest walking - although just the forest would have been fine!
Next day was beautifully blue, and we set off for the beach! On the way, we are sorry to say (and honestly this is relevant for later!) a Scotsman on our bus was violently sick from over imbibing the night before! After a plane ride over Fraser Island and some whale spotting, we then went sand dune jumping... Well some of us went jumping, others just skipped!
Then we went to the champagne pools and had a wee bathe... before going up to Indian Head - where we spotted... are you ready for this?! Humpback whales, eagle rays, dolphins, sea turtles and a reef shark!! We then went back and stopped at a sandy desert thing... where someone spotted a dingo (very exciting - we had been looking for one all day!). After chasing it down the hill (all 28 of us!) it finally stopped at a large pile of vomit someone had kindly deposited that morning!! Giving us ample opportunity to take photos! We then had to bump back to the resort as Pete had lost the first four gears of our bus!!
Pete has also written a poem about our trip - so will post that as well!
Brisbane was our next destination. We stopped on the way to practice our didgeridooing - which we are now becoming very proficient at! As well as spear and boomerang throwing. We have decided to audition as extras for Zena Warrior Princess when we get to New Zealand!!
Next day we went down the Gold Coast and did some zorbing!! Which was brilliant fun! And for those who dont know, it involves rolling down a hill in a big ball with water in it!
We are now in Byron Bay, which we love, but that is part of the next instalment! Surf camp tomorrow! x
