We said a rainy goodbye to the tremendous Czech hospitality this morning as we hopped on a bus and made tracks for Berlin. On arrival at our hostel in East Berlin, we were informed that Wednesday was cooking night and that we were welcome to join the communal feast (those communist tendencies stubbornly persevere). Anyone who was interested could join in the preparation, so we rolled up our sleeves and took directions from Sophia, our Grecian cook. The meal was first class, which included soup, salad, curry on rice, and ice-cream for dessert. Not bad for dicing a few tomatoes and peeling some potatoes! The international flavour of the cuisine was trumped only by the international flavour of our impromptu assembly, which included Aussies, Brazilians, Canadians, Danes, Swedes, Americans, and Brits, amongst others. There is nothing like a good meal to bring people together.
