We have been on a trip from Darwin to Alice springs for last 6 days. There is nothing much to see in Darwin itself, quite a small town and as we were there on a sunday everything was closed so we sat by the pool in our hostel that day, and walked to the marina in the evening to watch a lovely sunset. Had to get up early on mon morning to start our trip. We were in a group of about 20 people travelling on a little bus. Everyone was really lovely so it was good fun. We spent the first day doing some driving, as in total we had 3 days to do 1700km! We stopped at katherine gorge and took a speed boat ride along the river. As its the wet season here the heavens opened as soon as we got on the boat and we got absolutely soaked, in fact drenched. we couldnt have been more wet even if we jumped in the river. I tipped alot of water out of my shoes after that!Luclkily it did stop raining and we got some gorgeopus views of the gorge. We then went on a long walk and again got soaked as it tipped it down again. Spent the night camping in little tents which actually had proper mattresses in them!
Next day we basically spent it driving along the stuart highway, the longest, straightest most boring road in the world. you can go for an hour or two without passing anything but trees. Occasionally you get a service station where we stopped every couple of hours. Had lunch in Daly waters pub in the middle of nowhere. it had a pool so we were able to go for a swim and we had a game of cricket in the street with the barman. Was so much fun but very hot playing in the middle of the day! We carried on to tennant creek where we camped again.
Third day was more driving but we also stopped at the Devils Marbles, a rock formation where the rocks are all round and balancing on top of each other, was quite cool.Eventually we arrived in Alice springs and went out for dinner with our tour group which was fun.
