I am the only Scottish person on the trip, a lot are from England but some are also from Switzerland, Denmark, Australia and Canada. I thought that most people who spoke English would be able to understand my accent but it turns out I was wrong, I have had to repeat myself more times than I can remember and often someone has to act as a translator for me! In saying this, all the guys are amazing on the trip and it feels like I've known them a long time already (that's what happens when you spend 24 hours a day with people!)
The climbing here is incredible, absolutely incredible and the sun has been shining for the past week (alongside some of the most amazing thunder storms we'v e every seen) and it is set to continue. Infact by the end of this week it was hitting 30 degrees by 9am. I've been climbing now for a week at 'the Restaurant' in Waterval Boven and have been at a different crag each day. The climbing here is endless, there is flakes, cracks, crimps, jugs, overhangs …. anything you could ever dream of. It has given me motivation to push myself harder than ever before and as a result have done some pretty cool and interesting routes.
The wildlife here is also amazing from the butterflies to the baboons. What is not so attractive are the lizards, they are everywhere. During a climb the other day, a lizard was on the next hold I wanted to take but it was on the rock starring at me with its big eyes!! Scary.
Apart from climbing this week, for two days another Hot Rocker and I have been on cook duty. This involved cooking two dinners and two breakfasts for 22 people. Being a Scot I decided that porridge would do for one breakfast. Whilst the truck budget stretched to this, we have a very (very, very) tight budget to cook with so we are all lacking in protein (dad maybe you could send out some lamb chops please)!!!
Today is rest day. Once I have finished here I'm taking a walk into the local township. Apparently there is a guy their who sells the most amazing cooked chicken. I'm also in the midst of planning a two day trip for next week to Kruger National Park to see 'the big five'. Can't wait, I hope its as every bit as good as I think it's going to be. Anyway I'm off to find some chicken and to mingle with some of the locals.
Take care and remember to have a look at my photos which will be a bit more interesting than the blog!! x
(ps Thanks guys for all your messages etc, so far it's nice to hear from you - keep it up and I'll promise to try and keep my blog upto date and to keep spelling mistakes to a min.)
