Hello everyoneeeee!
I can't remember when I last updated and I can't really be bothered to check! I was supposed to be moving in with two Aussie guys tomorrow (I think I wrote about that!) but I looked at another room whilst I was waiting to move in, and I decided to take that one instead. It's not as spacey, and I only have a single bed instead of a double, but it was closer to work - only about 20 min walk to walk probably. (Don't worry mother it's straight down the busy southbank and then down a big main road!) It's on a street called Wellington Crescent, really nice, posh little cul de sac! It's halfway between the main square - Federation Sq, and the MCG. I can see the MCG from the street! But yeah, it's with one guy, who is probably in his late 30's but quiet is good cos it means I'll save money!
It's $150 a week, inc bills. And as I won't have to pay for public transport (or put the bills on top of the other one which was $110 a week), it'll prob work out cheaper. AND, there's a gym and a pool and a sauna in the appartment block which I can use for FREEEEEE! So it;s all good. The guy has been away for the weekend in Adelaide, so I can move in when he's back today, just waiting to hear from him.
So, I moved out of the hostel last Thursday, partly becasue it was rubbish, and partly becasue it's been the Aussie Grand prix here this weekend, and everywhere demands like 5 days payment upfront and the prices have gone up!
So I tried my hand at couchsurfing! (www.couchsurfing.com) and loved it! I stayed in a house which 2 guys rented - a guy half English, half Brazilian (from Dorset!) and an Aussie student. They have a spare room, like a rubbish extension bit off the back of the house, which they call the den! And there's a few matresses in there for couch surfers. That was full, so I was on a mattress in the lounge! There was a French guy called Lou on the couch, and then a German and a Canadian in the den when I first got there (thurs I think!). Now there's the same german, an American girl, an English girl and a German couple. It's been really good! Had a couple of nights out, a lot of random chat about rubbish! They're really good though - you can come and go when you like - they hide the key in a secret spot outside! V chilled out, v friendly. One person cooks every nioght, so there's always food :) AND ITS FREE! I'm all about the free things at the mo lol.
But yeah, it's been good. Because they have soooo many people stay there (it's like a ten min walk to work for me, so like right in the city), they call everyone by an animal name because it's so hard to remember everyone's names! I'm ducky. Giselle the German is cockatoo - but she can;'t say it, so she calls herself a kakadu thinking its right, bless! We have chimp, flamingo, fox and guinea pig at the mo, Lou the french guy was wombat. All v exciting haha. Hickey the English guy, is a panda, and Mitch is a wolf cub. haha. Anyway - it's been a v good first couchsurfing experience, and they've been very good hosts - lots of tea and coffee made and extra blankets provided! Actually i'm sleeping in silk sleeping bag, in a swag inside haha, but it's good - v comfy and hot showers!
Everyone there has done loads of couchsurfing with good experiences and I defo wanna do more when I start travelling again. It's really good - so easy to meet people and everyone's really friendly and helpful!
Anyway enough about couchsurfing. haha.
I met a guy called Mat about a week ago - I was going to move into his house but he found someone before we got a chance to meet! We met for lunch the other day because he was off work ill after he had food poisoning (he was feeling better but the doctor told him to have another day off work!) and he was bored, so we met for lunch. Nice guy! Very nice appartment too - gutted I missed out hehe. But yeah, me and him and his friends from work all went fishing (in the sea!) on Saturday - hired a boat! It was amazing! I had such a good time! It was a beauttttiful day, not a cloud in the sky and really warm! The sea was really calm and there were jellyfish everywhere, there were hundreds of them as we were driving along! It reminded me of that bit in finding nemo where they all get trapped in a sea of jellyfish!
Anywayyyys. We caught a fair ferw fish, about 15 probably. But apparantly cos it was so calm, it makes the fish be quieter and not as many lol (i don't think this is making a lot of sense I keep getting my words confused and my sentences don't make sense but I can't be bothered to go back and change them!) basically when it's choppy the fish are more encouraged to come out because the birds can't see them from the top and eat them. haha.
I caught the most fish hehehe. And the biggest fish! It was a flathead thingy that was the biggest fish. And... I caught a shark! YAY! Everyone thought it was a stingray when it came up, but I said I thought it was a shark, and when we got back to the hire place there was a chart which confirmed me as right haha! We threw them all back cos we weren't sure what you could abnd couldn;t eat. And this shark apparantly the shark I caught you can't really eat so tis a good thing we threw it back! I also managed to kill a little little fish by hooking it through the eye - god knows how i did it, but we had to kill it! When I say we, i mean one of the boys while I refused to look! Haha. Good day though!
And we broke the anchor by driving off with it stikll down, but luckily it only cos us an extra $75 - we thought it was gonna be a lot more. i think that happens all the tiome - the guy at the hire place told us, whatever we do, make sure we lift the anchor up, told us a funny story we all laughed, and we did exactly the same. Oops!
What else happened..... oh yeah! I worked Saturday night and we finished about 1.30am, and we were all sitting round having a drink afterwards discussing the clocks going back an hour. We all did it there and then so we wouldn't forget - like 7 of us. Went home, got up the next morning and had a call from my boss asking where I was cos I was supposed to be at work at 12, even though by my phone it was only 10.20 not 12.20 as he was saying!
Got to work late, and very confused! Apparently, they changed the day that the clocks went back because of the grand prix - and changing the time would cause too much confusion!?! So there were like 4 of us late for work. But I was the latest cos I think my phone must have changed itself automatically as well as me changiong it because for some reason I was two hours behind! So yeah, that seems a bit backwards to me - you can't just change the day the clocks go back becasue of the grand prix!? Everywhere else in the country has changed apart from Victoria which is now next weekend. Stooopid Aussies! Apparantly Aussie pancake day is in October - that doesn't make any sense either.
Well... I think that's it. I'm working every day this week (apart from today!) working every night til Sunday night. oo and going to my first AFL game with Matt on Sunday. he gets free tickets through work - bonus!
Byeeeeee now! xx
EDIT: Just spoke to Malcolm, the guy I'm supposed to be moving in with and he has had a mate staying in his spare room over the weekend because he;s just split up with his wife... and he needs a few more days to sort himself out. Which is fair enough, but it means I can't move in to the new place until the weekend now ARGH. So I am gonna be a scrubby nomad for longer. I might see if I can stay at Matts for a few days though, because sleeping on the floor although fine for a little while, is starting to wear a little bit thin now I can't hack it for anotehr week and I ened to do some washing and they don;t have a machine!
Bye bye now!xxx
