It's been a while, oops! Been really busy trying to sort stuff out!
Was really niceeee to see Alice and Rob over here! Saw them most days over the 10 days or so they were here. Met up and went out for drinkies a couple of nights before my birthday, and a nice meal in an Italian restaurant!
For my actual birthday we were picking up our campervan to do the Great Ocean Road! It was amazing! I loved the Great Ocean Road. It's gorgeous - big dramatic cliffs and the ocean on the left, and nice big green hills on the right! (Victoria isn't very green - the grass is brown cos the country has been in droubt for the last few years).
The van we hired was a Wicked campervan, which was pretty cheap. They al have cheeky graffiti on them, but the one we had couldn't have been any ruder - I'll let you wait for the photos to find out what it said! It was pretty old and pretty run down and felt a bit like it was going to ex[plode after driving it for more than an hour at a time, but I loved it! I loved driving it - and now I really want a car - when I travel the West Coast I'm defo gonna get one! We all slept in the back, it wasn't the biggest, but had 3 pretty decent night's sleep! There was a lil sink at the back, we had a little stove and plates and stuff. We realised we had no cutlery though so we had to improvise on the first night til we bought some plastic stuff!
My birthday was good though - met Alice and Rob for lunch - their shout! :-) and very nice it was too!
I had happy birthday sung to me that night on our little camp chairs and table with birthday donuts and even candles! Oo and a birthday chocolate bunny! Hehe.
The first day on the road we travelled to a place called Torquay. We onbly picked the van up at like 4pm, so just drove for a couple of hours - Torquay is the start of the Great Ocean Road. Paid a fortune for a very basic campsite, had a few drinks and slept!
The next day we drove a lot and tried to get to the 12 Apostles for sun set (big rock formations in the sea, where the cliffs have fallen away), although now there's only 6 left or something. We just managed to get like the last 20 mins of the sunset, and although it had been a gorgeous day, it clouded over, so the sunset was pretty rubbish!
There were LOADS of vans obviously not leaving the 12 Apostles car pack, so we decided to kip there for the night - it's freeee and the toilets were open all night! We cooked on the car park and listened to some irritating french people play some little bongo drum things for ageees. At about 8am the next morning we were rudely disturbed by a member of staff doing laps of the carpark beeping the horn continuosly! So off we went on our merry little way!
We backtracked a bit because in our mission to head to the 12 apostles for sunset there were a couple of bits we missed out. (Which turned out to be disappointing and wished we hadn't bothered!)
We went past a rock formationy place a bit like the 12 Apostles, called the Bay of Islands which was much better than the 12 Apostles! It was gorgeous, and really sunny too which is always a bonus! We were really lucky with the weather!
Then we drove back on the Friday lunch - it went really quick!
Can't really remember what I did for those few days after GOR, think I just job hunted!
Found a job anyway, in Melbourne! It's really really god, I'm enjoying it!
I'm working in an Italian restaurant in the Crown casino complex. It's called Cervo - http://www.cervo.com.au/ if anyone's interested!
The people are all really nice, there's like 5 Aussies, 4/5 English, a Canadian, loads of Columbian, a couple of Italian, Germans. The pay is pretty good - I've had loads of shifts this week - done about 50 hours I think! And, I get loads of tips! Am doing waitressing and bar. The bar people don't serve customers, they get the orders off a machine and just pour drinks for the waiting staff to pick up. The bar staff get 30% of the waiting staffs' tips, so if there's 3 of us (like on Fri/Sat) I get about 20/30 dollars, or if I'm waitressing can get anything between 30 and 100 bucks a night. One guy left me 40 dollars from one meal the other night! You get people in who just wanna throw money away, or have money to throw away in the casino so they give good tips! During the week I finish between 10 and 12, and Fri/Sat finish between about 11.30 and 1.30, so it's not too bad! I get a free meal every time I work, and free drinks/coffees!
What else... Have been looking for a flat, and think I have found somewhere now. The guy texted me this morning to say I could have it and to give him a call when I finished work, but there was no answer so just waiuting for him to call me back! Went to look at it yesterday - it's a 4 bedroom apartment, but at the mo it's only 2 Aussie guys living there. I think I'm moving into the smallest room - all it has is a double mattress but that's all I need really. I was originally going to have the other, fully furnished room with wardrobes/bed etcetc, which is $150 a week, but then they said they had another room for $100 a week, so think I'll have that one. They're filling the two spare rooms with girls, so it'll be me (hopefully!), 2 guys and another girl. They've got a guy from Guernsey staying for another couple of weeks, but after he leaves there'll be another girl! It's got a really nice lounge, massive flat screen TV with foxtel (cable), nice kitchen, really nice balcony area with tables and chairs and a beast of a BBQ! In a nice area too. In a place called Toorak, 2 mins walk from the train/tram station. About 20 mins on a tram to city, or less than 10 mins by train. Not far from St Kilda either, so I can get to the beach easy on a sunny day off!
So, yeah hopefuly I can move in there v soon! Been staying in a hostel in the city centre which is pretty rubbish. Had really noisy room, and in 8 days I've only had one and a half hot showers, the rest have been freeeeeeeeeezing!
So yeah... that's the news! Need to nip back to Swan HIll at some point to pick up some stuff from Dale's. Then I can concentrate on earning as much money as poss for SE Asia in June! Which I should be able to do! I'm on much more an hour than what I've been on for jobs at home. And I can claim my tax back when I leave Aus! The rent if I go to this place will be cheap too, so should be good! And I get free drinks after I finish work :) so I can get drunk for free! No expenditure needed hehe!
Tata for now!xx
