So our last night in New York was the comedy club (that we were duped into buying). It started off slow, lots of people shoved together in a room with lots of middle-aged, overweight moaning divorced comics, when suddenly in the middle of the worst comic of the night, this huge voice comes booming from the bar into the room.......and who was it I hear you cry?! Anyone remember Sabrina the teenage witch? Well it was the funny aunt, that's who! Now we haven't a clue what her name is, but she was hilarious! She picked everyone up, and showed that she's been doing it for a long time, so all in all a good night......in the end! NYC is cool but Tom and I were ready to leave a busy New York and head to the much more tranquil Washington.
Arrived late in Washington on the megabus, hungry (me), tired (me) and crabby (oh, me again - poor Tom). This weekend is memorial weekend (not sure what it is that's being remembered though!?), so the bus was packed. After dodgy directions from the hostel, we arrived to a nice house surrounded by car parks and empty plots. The house is a converted 180 year old mansion which developers have been trying to buy and rip down for years. IT IS AMAZING, well it might only be OK, but compared to the New York hostel it's great........everything is modern, everyone has a light and plug socket by the bed and we only have 4 other beds in a dorm. The hostel has a no shoe policy so they give you personalised slippers! Heaven.
So, after an amazing 10 hours sleep, amongst waking up to hear the squirrels fighting in the loft, we went to the supermarket to buy breakfast (save money) and we have named today 'National Louise trips over everything day'. I blame the tall buildings as they make me look up instead of down, Tom manages fine though....he's like a damn mountain goat, wandering around without a care in the world.
We both agree that Washington is much nicer than New York, fewer crowds, less noise and a smaller area to work with. My poor feet in New York were starting to blister. Today we visited most of the usual sites (White House/Lincoln Memorial etc), and Tom is letting me take pictures of him which is rare but now at least it looks like we came away together haha. (Tom disputes this, and thinks most of them are ninja pictures that he doesn't see coming).
Tonight we are hoping to go to a small outdoor county festival thing, proper bbq, live country band (with a banjo) and hay bales instead of chairs. It would be nice to listen to some live music. The weather here is great, but it is blooming windy - my hair is going mental!....On Monday it's memorial day so there is a big parade on downtown, we think. Tomorrow we are visiting the museums which are all free (yes Tom was ecstatic (there's nothing wrong with being frugal woman!)).
Update you all soon, keep reading! xxxxx
