Lau speaking!
So, we stayed in Rainbow Beach at Dingo's Hostel (luckily, no actual dingos live here). We were then taken by Ian, our guide, to spend 2 days on a remote island with some of the world's deadliest spiders and dogs (mine and Lou's favourite creatures!) Ian was one of the greatest tour guides, full of knowledge, jokes and tea and biscuit breaks-including gluten free cookies for Lou! We took a quick ferry across and started by driving in our 4x4 tour bus along the beach. We stopped for a break (after seeing a wild dingo eating a turtle) to have morning tea and a toilet break behind the rocks. 5 minutes later we spotted 2 more wild dingos roaming around behind that same toilet rock! We swiftly got in the bus and carried on! En route we stopped to see The Pinnacles-some sacred Aboriginal rainbow cliffs, Indian Head-a dormant volcano with superb views and the Maheeno-a shipwreck with an amazing history. We had one hell of a lunch (with Lou's first ever gluten free wraps!) and went swimming in the clear waters of Eli Creek (with a glass of goon!) We then set off for the 'village' where we were to spend the night. Ian had some trouble getting the bus through the sand onto the road. So we all jumped out to push and after 4 attempts and one very long 'run up', he made it and we all jumped back on. That night was spent eating one amazing BBQ and drinking plenty of goon.
After a lovely night's sleep in our cabin we headed to the rainforest-the only part of the world to be unaffected by the Ice Ages, so exactly as it was when the dinosaurs lived. In fact it was used as the setting for Walking with Dinosaurs and has some of the oldest species of plants and animals in the world! (See how much we learnt from Ian!)
We then had a dip in the beautiful Lake MacKenzie, where the sandgrains are so tiny you can use them to beautify yourself. Ian taught us the 4 steps to lookiong younger: 1. Rubbing the sand into your hair. 2. Rubbing the sand on your face. 3. Rubbing it over your body and 4. Rubbing your silver jewellery clean. We looked crazy withsand on top of our heads but it certainly made our hair soft! Not sure we;re looking any younger though.
After lunch we had to head back to the ferry and just as we floated off we saw 2 dolphins playing in the water-what a perfect end to a perfect trip!
