Hey hey everyone!!
Just in case you are wondering what's with the title, I've had that "From Paris to Berlin" song in my head for a few days now and I won't be traveling from Paris to Berlin at all so I changed the words to "From Berlin to Prague". It does really make any sence and the words don't flow AT all but oh well. Moving on...
Today was the joyful trip to Prague from Berlin. I woke up at the crack of dawn AGAIN. 3.30am AGAIN but at least I had plenty of time to pack my stuff up, quickly head down for breakfast and head off to the train.
Breakfast didn't start till 6.30 and I was down stairs sitting on the floor ready to go at 6.25. Eager beaver I reckon! Between 6.35 and 7 I had scoffed down some eggs on toast with some juice and I sneaked down some zip lock bags to the eating hall with me. I collected some pastries and made myself a jam roll for the train ride as I figured the ham and cheese wouldn't sit to well in my bag on the train.. Up there for thinking down there for dancing I reckon!!
I went back up stairs to gather my things together and be on my merry way as the day before I figured out which train to catch to get me to central aka Berlin HBF. I handed my room key in feeling great that I have a plan in place and I knew where to go. It took me alittle longer than expected to get the the local train station as the pathways weren't flat slabs like back home. Some were made of I guess you could call it large stone pavings and other parts were a lot smaller stone pavings and trying to control two suitcase doesn't appear to be as easy as it looks...
So I got to the train station only 10 mins later than I expected but I still allowed myself another hour and a bit before my train had to leave and by the internet timetable it was only a 6 min train ride.
I asked the lady at the information desk which platform do I need to be on to go to Central Station. "platform 5, catch any train" she told me. Seems easy enough I'm thinking to myself. Then she starts saving words in German, I gather it was the train line name or something... I had no bloody idea what she was saying. So I just knodded, said thank you, smiled my white pearlers and walked away. oh s*** I'm thinking. I'm screwed!
So I'm trying to find some sort of sign that indicates platform 5. But I couldn't find anything because ALL the signs were in German, no English at all. I felt like a lost sheep and had no idea what to do. So I figured I would follow all the people walking in the same direction to the underground platforms. How hard could this really be was my only thoughts. I found my way to a ticket machine which were the worst machine to possibly use. A lady walked by and I used my 'Please help me I'm desperate' eyes. She walked over to me and I asked her how to use the machine and that I was going to Central. All she replied back was "Central? Central?" She pressed a few button and she motioned with her hands to place money in machine and to validate the ticket in the machine. She smiled and walked away. After paying and validating my ticket I went to try and find the platform 5. But I couldn't find any. So I decided to walk back upstairs and a gentleman offered to help me with my bags so I thought I would give him a try. He had no idea what the hell I was saying because he couldn't speak English. All my thoughts at this point was "I'm f#%&in screwed". As I walked up another set of stairs I could feel my chest tightening up like I was going to start balling my eyes out.
I stood there for a few minutes and said "screw this, I'm catching a bloody cab". So I walked out to the taxi rank and the driver hops out of his car and puts my luggage in the boot and I ask him to take me to Central station. His only reply was "Train? Train?". Today was not my day at all! How the hell do I know that he will take me to the right train station?!?!?
Thankfully he was going the right way and before I knew it I had arrived at Central Station. I then proceeded to the information desk to see which platform my train would be arriving and after looking at my ticket the lady printed off a piece of paper and explained that I will need to catch a train then a bus then a train again... Just my bloody luck right??
All I can say is that I'm so glad I reserved a seat because there was some people sitting in the isle for more than 2 hours. The change over from train to bus then bus to train went quite smoothly. All I did was follow the people in front of me and hope they would take me to the right bus and train.
I arrived in Prague only about half an hour later then expect. I found a cab driver to take me to my hotel. Once I arrived at the hotel I was so exhausted I pretty much crashed out straight away. Went without dinner again.
The hotel is really nice. I have a very comfortable bed which is all I need but the shower is quite small. Apart from that all is well and looking forward to tomorrow. I've decided to do the hop on hop off tour but this time actually hop off and explore.
Anyways I'd best be off. Sooo sorry these entries at so long! I'm craving vegies so badly now. Never thought I would ever say that.
Ok well talk to you all soon.
Over and out!

Mary Bone Sounds like you are having a ball. Yeah not many veges on the menu. Doesn't take long to realize how lucky we are here as far as good goes. Veges and a good steak I Don't think they know what that is. Go figure. At least you are allowing your self plenty of time to how where you have to be. Hop in hop offs are great. You get to see the most things and get the lay if the land. Lots of Love xxx
