Laura's Journal
Just a quick entry as the computers driving me insane! Was almost done uploading lots more piccies and it crashed on me, arrr!
It was the funeral yesterday which was really interesting, the king was carried up a street lined with school children by about 30 men, from the palace to the royal tombs led by a band. Royals and representatives came from other countries, we had the duke and duchess of gloucester, not sure who they are though! Heard a rumour it was going to be Prince charles, so was a bit dissapointed! Anyways, the funeral was long, 4 hours! we were sat under a marquee with all the locals and had an ok view but was blocked a bit by the army and navy who were standing lining the walkway. There were some lovely hymns and beatuiful singing and music by the band, but the sermons were very long and all in tongan so we got a bit bored and uncomfortable in those parts! It was really interesting to be here for it though and i'm glad we went.
We then went out for the afternoon with our local friends here, a couple of them drive so they took us out to the royals tombs, captain cooks landing point and the archeological site, which was interesting and we had some giggles on the way. We finished off at a beach for some touch rugby and a swim and then they cooked us all food which was really lovely. Also found out the one guy, Fale is Jonah Lomus's second cousin which is pretty cool, seems like everyone in tonga is related!
Today it rained and we were back in hospital so was a bit boring compared to what we've een doing the past few days. Did a bit of touristy shopping though to get that done while the suns away!
Met up with carla which is really nice to see her and to have some female company! We're off to play pool with the others tonight and then dinner tomorrow night before I leave for sydney friday. Can't believe how quickly its gone! I'm going to be quite sad to leave. Tonga is such a friendly place and i'll miss it here.
Anyway, will write again soon. xxxx
