Hey all, Hoping this will work today!
Dani got here last night and we went for dinner, then to a bar with a funky pianist playing all sorts of tunes! We decided to book a trip for today not to waste a day, so we went out on the great barier reef and had an amazing day!
It was cloudy this morning but cleared up thankfully. The boat was a nice big catarmaran with a nice crew and morning tea as we set off which we loved, as we had no access to a morning cup of tea in the hostel and shops were closed as it was early! They took us out firstly to a reef area to swim and snorkel/dive and then after lunch we headed out to a sand bank which was like a small island basically without trees and we snorkelled off the shore.
We were both a bit nervous at first as the sea was really choppy and it was windy, and also because of the thought of sharks! We went in with one of the crew and all held a rope, which actually turned out to be better than if we'd done it alone as she took us to great spots and pointed out things we wouldn't have noticed. It was so beautiful,so many fish to sea aswel as giant clams and lovely coral. My favourite was the rainbow fish which had the most amazing colouring.
My favouite part of the day was probably at the sand bank as you got to lay on a island of sand bang smack in the middle of the ocean in the sun with crystal clear water surrounding you, perfect! We did some good snorkelling off there too, which was actually better some ways as you could wade in and then swim so you were a lot closer to the reef itself.
The way back was ridiculously choppy and everyone was being sick on the boat which was nice, not me luckily! We then went to an italian resterant for food and for a wander round the shops and now the internet cafe as we're trying to pass time as we're getting the midnight coach down to airlie beach tonight.
Feeling like a real backpacker now, have all sorts tied to my rucksack, haven't had a shower since the reef as we had to check out this morning and now have a night coach journey to look forward to! Also still swaying from the boat, great fun! All that aside i'm really enjoying it so far and can't wait for the next stop!
Plan is to get to airlie and check in somewhere then find a sailing trip to the whitsundays to hopefully get on tues and then go and sleep on the beach!
Hope your all well,
love Lors xx
