Hello all, hope your well. We are now in Koh Phi Phi, we traveled over here via a ferry and then a coach yesterday. It was a LONG journey and very random but I’ll tell you about that later!
We loved Koh Toa so much that we stayed a few extra days and we ended up getting the boat from there to Koh Phnagan for the full moon party. We had both heard so many stories about these parties but they really are a once in a lifetime experience. The whole night was just crazy from start to finish and we both made it home safely. We got friendly with some English girls and guys while we were staying in Koh Toa and so we all went to the party together. They’re a great bunch of people and such a good laugh. One of the girls, Karina went to Hallam too which was cool. Her friend Sarah is traveling on her own around Oz and New Zealand so I’ve arranged to meet up with her. So we all went to Koh Phangan on the boat which left at 5pm on Friday. The sea was really rough and so both Em and I were sick on the way there! I didn’t think I got seasick but there must be something about the waters over here! Even the people who were working on the boat were scared!!!!! We eventually got to Phangan 2 hours later and it really is a party island. Its rammed full of backpackers, especially Australians, they seem to love it over there! We went for a meal and drinks at this place called Coral Bunglaows which is where we had been recommended to go for the “pre party” so we stayed there till about midnight then we hit the beach. It was a great atmosphere but just insane. There were thousands and thousands of people just crammed onto the beach, most of them totally out of their faces on alcohol ( there’s a big drugs scene at these parties and we had been told to watch our drinks) but we all made sure we stayed well away from that!!! Ive never seen so many people just jamming to random music in my life! There were even sleep zones where u could just have a kip later on. It was quite heavily policed which was good and made us feel safer as the crime rate at these parties is apparently really high, and lots of the bungalows and hotels on Kho Phanagn just get raided as they know people will be at the party! We were even a little worried about leaving our stuff in our little cottage in Koh Toa but thankfully nothing happened to us although weve heard some horfific stories since the party finished! Lots of people getting mugged, drinks spiked etc. But we all stayed together and Dad you would be so proud of your girls, we even found a meeting spot in case we all lost each other!!!! How good and sensible are we!!!! We were drinking “buckets” all night which are literally buckets of samsun, which is the Thai whisky, with red bull and coke! Although the redbull isn’t red bull at all and Im sure it has something in it over here which literally does keep you up all night!!!!! Me and Em got back on the boat at 7am the next morning and we weren’t even tired. We eventually got to bed at about 11am, well I went to bed and Em went straight onto the beach! Crazy times. We were up for 24 hours and I think Im still feeling it now! The party really was amazing though and I would recommend it to anyone! You can see why they are only held once a month though. They obv take loads of organizing etc. Oh yeah, I was sick on the way back too, I’m not sure if that was the 6 buckets we consumed or just the fact that the water was rough!!!! But anyway, we all had a great time and met up the next night ( our last night) and went for a meal, although everyone was hanging and nobody want to drink! The people we met were staying at this diving resort called “Bans” and if I go back to Koh Toa next week, I will prob stay there as it’s a great place, esp to meet people. I don’t want to scuba dive though, it’s a huge thing on that island but it doesn’t interest me in the slightest! The thought of going so deep under water with all those fish really scares me! Ahhhh what a big wimp I am.
So we left Koh Toa yesterday at 9am, we were really sad to leave as we met some great people. That’s the thing about traveling I’m learning really quick, its great to meet people and make new friends but everyone seems to move on so quickly! So we got the boat to Saranti, which is mainland, it took 6 hours and it was great as the boat was packed full, everyone was like sardines packed in. bu me and Em managed to find a great tanning spot on the front of the boat, with hardly anyone else on it, so we stayed there, the crossing was really calm too so no more sea sickness. We then had to get on a coach to Krabi, which isn’t the nicest of places, its very touristy but we only had to stay there last night, and then get a boat over to Phi Phi Dom today. We literally went for some food ( we had cottage pie and chips in this Irish bar as we hadn’t eaten propely for almost 2 days and we were starving and wanted to watch the football) and we were passed out in bed by 10pm!!! Had the best sleep ever. The hostel was nice, we paid 400 baht for a really nice room it was the cleanest we have stayed in yet! So cheap!!! Then we left at 9am today on a boat to Phi Phi Dom.
So we have a had a right old adventure the past few days! I love getting on the boats and coaches, u just meet so many random people. Me and Em are soooooo nosy too and we just find ourselves listing to everyone’s conversations!! Haha, its great. Phi Phi is nice but we have both already said its nowhere near nice as Koh Toa. Its weird too cos of the Tsunami, these islands were hit quite bad and so theres still so much building going on, and contrsuction sights everywhere! Its really quite sad. There are evacuation points and routes up everywhere so we no where to go. We are staying here for 4 days and then Em is leaving me ;-( She flies from Phuket to Bangkok to get her flight and I have already decided to go back to Koh Toa. I felt so safe there and hopefully I’ll meet some friends over there. I want to stay in our little hut on the beach again. It will be really nice to have a chilled out 2 weeks there. I don’t want Em to leave though, she has been like my mum the whole time and is pretty much organizing everything, and she even carries my bag for me. I’m going to be soooooo sad when she leaves and I, all alone ! Ah what a sob story! Oh yeah speaking of bags, I HATE my ruck sack, we have officially fallen out and I want to get rid of it! Hehe, buy seriously its doing my head in. Dad, Im going to send some things back by post, Em can prob bring some things back but I have packed far too much stuff and I cant actually pick it up! When Im getting on the boats or carrying it somewhere, I kinda just stop and look around with puupy eyes and then people have been stopping to help me! Haha, they must feel sorry for me. Including Emma. Some random girl even stopped to help me with it when we were getting on the boat today and she was smaller than me!!!! She had big strong arms though which must be what I lack!!!
We have just met up with a really nice couple, Rob and Emily who were on our boat and we are staying in the same hotel as us now. They are from leeds and are so nice. We couldn’t find anywhere to stay when we got here, as accommodation is so limited and the 4 of us spent hours looking around trying to find somewhere. We eventually founfd somewhere, n its so cheap, we managed to haggle with them and are paying next to nothing for 3 nights, we even have air con ( its boiling over here, much hotter than the other side, about 40deg) and a DVD player and TV. Wow we are being spoilt! There wete only 2 room left though so luckily we got in there. We have even arranged to have a movie night tomorrow night and stay in and watch the Beach, as we are going on a boat trip tomorrow to all the islands, and where they filmed the Beach on Maya Bay. We get to go snorkeling too which should be ok, I think, as long as Em holds my hand and looks after me!!!!
Its pretty smelly around here too, some kind of a sewage problem, but hey no complaints! We have a bed for tonight, that’s all that matters. There are so many travelers wandering around and can’t find anywhere to stay. I feel sorry for them!
Big hugs from the both of us to you all. xxxxxxxxxxxx
